Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The weather is still good for outdoor rides, topped out at 76 today. BUT it's that annoying time of year, where it's about 50 degrees or less still at 8 or 9, so it's hard to guess what the weather will be like at various spots on the ride. Last week I wore a long sleeve jersey and a vest for my Sunday ride, then wished I had a jacket and knee warmers because it was a lot colder at the top of the climb, and the ride down the spine of the Santa Cruz Mountains was kinda chilly.

So today, I rolled out in a long sleeve jersey and vest again. Immediately took off the vest, and soon wished I'd worn short sleeves, too. And at the top of the climb, I put on my vest before descending down the other side, only to stop and take it off as soon as I was out of the redwoods. It sat in my pocket the whole ride. Oh, well, Better to have and not need than need and not have, I suppose.

I've had a beard since I could grow one, 1980ish. I scared my children in 1992 when I shaved it off, hasn't been removed since. Besides, I look like an axe murderer without a beard

New windows day!

With my brain, of course, that means being torn between excitement that they'll be quieter and worry that they won't be good enough.

Maybe. But this morning, I did NOT shave the area roughly covered by my mask. Pics available upon request.

Pro tip, gardening gloves are not a good substitute for cycling gloves when the temperature is below 40.

The good news is that expensive cycling gloves work great in the garden.

Well, I got 'er done in erg mode. I was trying free before. Still going to be a long winter.

Get something like some PI Cyclones or, if you're feelin' flush, the Rapha Classic leather gloves.

I've stopped, also. I've thought about donating $10 to Movember for everyone of my friends that grows a moustache this month.

As dumb as shaving is, not shaving is even dumber, so I do it twice a week.

created a rapha account last night, the blue classics are on my wish list. I’m gunna check and see what contis has, I hope the website inventory is wrong, because newport news and williamburg are showing out of stock of everything. If that’s the case I’ll hit trek up and get the bontrager thermals.

The leaves are now under a couple of inches of snow. They're not coming back.

Not here. There's still a sizeable number of greenish ones on many trees,

Just posted two CL ads for some lenses and then poked around the other listings. It boggles my mind that people selling photography gear take such ****ty photos of stuff that they want to sell.

Question: do studs really need a bedding-in period on pavement? This seems odd to me.
