Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Luckily this was on the Canyon, not one of my bikes with a standard geometry, so I didn't get my gonads reinserted forcefully into my abdomen.

I did not escape unscathed, of course.

Definitely scathed.

May be time to get some new pedals.
Not good. Glad you made it out scathed, but not totally messed up. That really could have been bad.

Note:
11 hours in a car with sciatica is less than desirable. Paying the price today. Visual approximation except I'm lucky that mine is bilateral.

I hate to see this, especially since I use Look pedals. Back when I used Time pedals I had 2 of them snap off while riding and I fell in the street both times. The third one broke but didn't come apart and that's when the Time rep bought me a pair of Looks.

Glad you're mostly ok.

Thinking back on the history of these pedals, they were bought new in 2007 or so, then I used them on the Battaglin for 13 years. It was always my go-to bike, the one I would ride at my heaviest. Maybe 10,000 miles on them? Then another 1760 on the Canyon.

So I ordered 2 pair of Look Keo Classic 3s from PBK. As luck would have it, I now have 2 pairs of cycling shoes, so I'll just have to decide which shoes will go with which bikes.

Funny thing is, when the pedal broke off my first thought was to swap on another pair of pedals from another bike and complete the ride. I probably would have been fine, but discretion is the better part of valor.

Great, something else to add to the list of terrible things that can happen while riding a bike.

I'm still using Delta Looks. Some time ago a friend gave me two pair of the Jalabert signature pedals. One pair was new and the other near new. The latch part wore out on the first set and now the surface of the pedals on the second set is worn almost to the point of exposing the axle.
I found another nice set on e-bay.

Time to ride. I am on call this weekend, and it's quite likely I will get paged during the ride. I will start out with a small group of friends, but will drop myself to answer the pager and finish the ride solo.

Not continuously. I also did some quick, on-the-spot repairs, sold a bike, and had various other customer interactions. Aka, typical day at the shop.
