July photo thread...

Since I’m gone until the 2nd week of July I’m posting this early…you still have a few days to post in the June thread!!!!!
July’s theme is ‘Something Beginning with ‘R’. For example, it could be a robin, a Rodin, a Rastafarian, a rooster, ridges, riders, Red Riding Hood, a rhesus monkey, a rave, raw, roots, riots, revelations etc. etc. It's entirely your choice so let your imagination run free! It would be a help if you give your photo a title if you think it’s needed to understand your point of view

You must have taken the photo/'s you post and be willing to post the theme for the month of Sept if you are the winner according to the first powerball winning number after July 31. Since the winner is chosen in a different way now (by their post number and not votes for one photo, a good idea too!!) I’ll also add that you can post more than one of your ‘R’ photos but you have to do it in just your initial thread post!! I’ll add some to this post as July goes on.

eta….as i wrote above, the way we are voting in this thread gives us the ability to post a number of thread related photos just in our initial post now (10 images in a post is the site limit). i’m hoping we can get more sharing of our photos now because of this. Personally i’ll take advantage of this as it’ll temper my use of collages

Red door

Reflect

Reading about spirit and Revolution

Rodin

Rust

I’ll do more before the end of the month

Ragbrai and Roominghouse Madrigals

everyone should post more of their “R” photos now!!!!!!!!

my last one

Hi Machka! As I understand it, there is no longer voting for a winner. Instead, the winner is chosen by a random draw of post numbers.

It’s discussed at length in the May contest thread, but to summarize we’re using the 1st powerball of next month to determine a winner based on the order of your submission. Say we have a powerball number of 15, the 15th photo submitted will be the winner. If we don’t have 15 then the 1st digit determines the winner and the number 1 photo takes it. I’d like to make it the 2nd number just so everything wouldn’t sku so heavily for the 1st several photos to be submitted but what would we do if 20 was the powerball number. It’s not perfect but we’ve had people leave expressing frustration with the old method of voting.

Saturday night July 31 at 10:59 eastern time is the Powerball drawing so I’ll wait until after that to close the submissions and declare the winner.

Since there are 26 possible numbers for the Powerball it would be easier if we had 2 more submissions (I’m not including myself but i want the participation trophy that majmt got ) to even the chances. I like the way majmt did the May thread

Jseis - 11 & 24
xiaoman - 12 & 25

Ideas on how to deal with less than 13 submissions would be appreciated. Since we probably won’t get 26 submissions mine would be to use the second number when needed and give those to the respective numbered entries. As it stands right now, and an example, here is how I’d suggest doing it

Igotdibs 1-12
Deal4Fuji 2-13
Jseis 3-14-23
KenCT 4-15-24
Machka 5-16-25
majmt 6-17-26
MoAlpha 7-18
gios 8-19
Hondo Gravel 9-20
nondes 10-21
xiaoman1 11-22

It's probably too late to start an August thread. I tried to tag @Jseis with a "mention" back on the 2nd with no response....I guess he's in his other world
