HEADS UP: Deluxe Trucker
Saw this on Craigslist this morning, and thought I would add it here. If anyone is looking for a bargain in a very sweet tourer, here it is if you ride a 56cm.
Like new Surly Trucker Deluxe, 56 cm, S&S Couplers, Surly rear rack - $1,500 (Burlington)
Such a good bike for such a fair price. Those S&S couplers are a $1000+ option at a lot of framebuilders. Well, at least it was on my Bilenky. So another way of looking at it is that you've got a Long Haul Trucker for $500 then add the couplers. The bottom line is that you getting a great deal on a rare and excellent bike for all your adventures. I sincerely hope someone here benefits from this, because I doubt it will last long. Good luck!

At least one size too small, more likely he should have got a 60cm. BIG FAIL.

Goose neck one bolt seat post > Fail.
Eyelet rims. Fail.

I paid for the S&S couplers on my bike frame and the S&S Backpack case from savings on airline oversize fees. But since then, Delta and American dropped the fees, and someone recently commented that United did to.
I still like a smaller case to carry through airports and that fit in a taxi trunk, thus I will likely continue to break down my S&S bike to that size for international flights. But S&S couplers do not offer the savings from costly oversize fees at this time that they used to.
Time will tell if the fees come back later.

This is a good point, TiM, one that I've never considered. I have S&S couplers on my Bilenky, but I have to honestly say that I have only used them once, and it wasn't for air travel either. Probably not pertinent to this topic, but I have not found any fault with the couplers, nor have I found any benefits justifying their existence other than rare moments of convenience. I suppose that if I were constantly flying with my bikes, then couplers would make sense. I think part of what makes me love touring is being put into situations that require improvisation. Having a bike without couplers never was much of a problem for me. I doubt that I'll get another bike with couplers.

But, the cost savings from fee avoidance was only half of the advantage. It is really nice to be able to be able to go to the airport for an international bike tour, and be able to put your luggage in the trunk of a Prius, as most of the taxis in my community now are Prius. My last bike tour had very complicated logistics to get from my home to the starting point, if I had to lug around a full size bike box I would not have gone on that bike tour.
