2017 - 2018 North American Track Events Calendar

This is an attempt to consolodeate a track calendar by region so that people can subscribe to the thread and maybe start making travel, work, and training plans in which to participate or spectate these events. This is for racers AND spectators! So, even post world level events that are happening in North America. Folks from other regions, maybe start similar threads (Europe, Oceana, South America, etc...)

This is for the bigger events where one would want visitors to come and race. Not your weekely racing calendar.

Please add any details you have so far and try to edit/update when you have more info. You'll have to add a fresh comment at the bottom of the thread like "Updated the So and So event details" in order for a fresh notification email to go out to subscribers.

Race promoters, please post details here.

Yeah, that's what I did a couple of years ago when I did this. It was a google calendar to which people could subscribe to get updates and whatnot. The problem was getting the content.

Good idea.

Detroit velodrome opens in a few weeks. It will be having monthly races with very large cash purse to attract people from all over the region. I'll post more when the details get finalized. I've been riding it for about a month, and its a fun track to ride. Its a great spectator track too - there is something more visceral about being inside so close to the riders and feeling the rush of wind hit you when the pace line goes by.

I'll be back there training tonight, because: Track riding in the winter!!! :-)

Yeah, I'd be interested in driving down but I would want to know what events are on.

Thanks! @chas58

Here is an example of a flyer that will answer all of the questions that the event host is gonna get. Maybe send this to them?

Covers:
- Categories (Certifications and who can and who cannot race (USAC vs ATRA certs))
- Total Prize payouts
- List of events with breakdown by category and payouts (elite, masters, women)
- Schedule with expected start times (some poeple don't/can't show up until later due to obligations)
- Disclaimers to avoid issues (e.g. field size min/max).

With that level of detail, you'll get racers from much further away. I've driven from ATL to Frisco, TX to race before, trusting a good race flyer

A bad thing that can happen is for a person not to come because they don't think that there are any races for them, and there are. The worst thing that can happen is for a person to drive a few hours and give up a weekend just to find out that they can't race.

I checked the website and I don't see any more info than what the flyer has.

Thanks for the info, I’ll pass that on.

Well, it’s the first real event here, and I don’t think there has been an official announcement yet. I expect we’ll be having events like this on a monthly basis. Your best bet for specific questions would be to email the link on the web page, or post a question on the facebook page.

Generally they want people to have taken the intro and the racing classes there if they want to race. Not sure how they will handle this for people from out of town. People who have raced on our other track in the summer haven’t taken the class (and have been riding the track since early December). It’s a short track, so it rides a bit different (50 degree turns, very short straights).

The format is a variety of races. Scratch races, mis-N-out, Madison, maybe some events against the clock. Event schedule may be planned around those who plan on racing (i.e. timed events, Pursuit, Madison)

Here is a sample event schedule:
5pm-7pm Warm Up (spectators don't enter infield until 7pm)
7pm-7:30pm No Riding
National Anthem & Blessing of the Riders Prayer in the dark.
Riders roll up to apron in line with 50 lap Roll Up.
AA 20 Lap Scratch race
Match Sprint #1
A 40 Lap Scratch race
Flying laps - Junior kids on up to the fastest riders.
AA Elimination race
Match Sprint #2
A Elimination race
Junior Kids 5 lap Scratch race
20 lap Pursuit
Match Sprint #3
A/AA Madison

“Who is certified to ride/race?” Was a big messy question when Rock Hill opened.

Admins need to settle that decision as early as possible.

There is nothing about the Post #9 weekend races on the USA Cycling events calendar; will this be a USA Cycling or ATRA event?

Unfortunately I know a solid half-dozen riders who are canceling their plans to go to Detroit because why bother taking valuable vacation days at work for the trip when they don't even know what the races are going to be?
