Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Speaking of wind, today’s wind report during my ride was 23 mph sustained with gusts to 37 mph. I did everything I could to hide from the wind. My wife, bless her soul, said that she was taking the day off and “have fun.”

And coin cells for the shifters? A friend of mine recently had to make call of shame for this.

If he checked them before the ride, it would have been a non issue.

He says he ran “the app” the night before. I honestly don’t know how Etap alerts you to low battery life.

Considering those last over a year, he deserves it for not keeping track.

From SRAM’s site: “The CR2032 shifter batteries used in all eTap AXS electronic drop bar shifters will last about two years under normal use (estimated at 15 riding hours per week).

Seriously, a low Di2 battery moves all power to the RD and in the case of eTap, you put the remaining good battery in the rear to get home, same situation as losing a FD cable.

Since 2017, I’ve only had an eTap battery die once and I got home fine on the rear. I did have a Di2 battery go low last winter on the trainer. Plugged it in and got back on the trainer.

My Garmin shows me battery levels on all of my drivetrain batteries, Di2 or eTap.

My Karoo 2 only shows me battery life for SRAM.

Since SRAM bought Hammerhead, apparently Shimano has withdrawn allowing its products to communicate with the Karoo.

I just do a shift check before I leave. The light flashes green on both derailers and both shifters I am good to go. I charge the derailers once a month.
