60+ miles on gravel bikes with one of Charlotte’s top bike ambassadors. Incredibly beautiful day. A diverse mix of city streets, greenways, neighborhoods and even a small slice of gravel. Charlotte’s chief bike messenger Dickie joined us for about half the ride on his single speed.

I really enjoyed riding through the areas where my cycling friend grew up and learning about his childhood where he spent time at the various playgrounds, parks and swimming pools. We even rode by one of the houses where he once lived. We also added the Charlotte Historical Museum and the Hezekiah house and grounds. Incredible to think I’ve never been there before.

Lunch was amazing as well.

Great view of downtown Charlotte. I used to commute to work there for over 10 years.

Great lunch!

Lincoln the owner, also a bike rider.

Amazing bratwurst sandwich with sauerkraut and mustard.

Hezekiah Alexander house dating back to the 1700’s.

Hezekiah

Charlotte freedom bell. Huge! How’d they make it???

25 miles, sunny, chilly mid 60s, SE wind about 10 mph. My first 25 mile ride last year was on June 6. I think I was a little sick, since almost the hole ride was in zones 4 or 5, and I think my effort was low/moderate. My speed was certainly slower than usual. Off today, looking forward to tomorrow - projected to be low-mid 60s, 10 mph winds, cloudy..

My regular climb got cut-off today because of a brush fire near or inside the park. All good. Had to pick a climb among the many steep streets.
Looks like our fire season is not going to be a good one.

A really nice 84 miler up to High Rock Lake. There must be a treasure trove of great roads south of Gold Hill and SE of Richfield that need exploring. Did a few more short segments around there today which just wet the appetite to try some more. Just need to carve out a day to spend some time down there.

Throwback GCC Jersey day.....that jersey has seen a lot of epic rides in the past.

Gilbert was waiting for me at the fence near the road. He LOVED the fig newtons and ate the whole pack. Amy Anderson he said he was looking forward to your visit and to bring him some apple slices!

I really liked this rock flower garden. The owners came out and we talked for a few minutes. They’ve planted a field of sunflowers and said to stop again in a couple months and they’d give me a bag of the seeds.

Interested if any older riders have experienced a minor stroke (TIA) and what their experience getting back on the bike has been like.
I will be 73 in couple of monthis and was diagnosed on Easter Sunday with a minor stroke. Have been reading online about 5 year probabilities of major strokes and heart attacks and the statistics are a little scary. Biking has always been my favorite activity and have only gone a few short rides after coming home from he hospital and follow up with the neurosurgeon. MY current bike is a Specialized Turbo Vado SL 3.0 which is a lightweight e bike that requires a good pedal effort because of the smaller motor.

A great 100 miler with great folks! Another “food ride” and this place was off the charts! Incredible bbq pork and bbq chicken topped off with their “nanner pudding” for dessert. How often can you eat beside a runway while watching planes take off and land???

Tomorrow we will ride another 100 miler out of Kannapolis with another food stop!

Our half marathon season started later than usual this year, so in turn my Saturday morning rides were put off until we finished. And with the week I had I didn't just want to ride, I needed to ride and rain wasn't going to stop me. I left the house in a slight drizzle with no plan of where to ride. Ended up at a small reservoir outside of town and was only chased by one dog.

This was also my first ride on my new GP5Ks and they performed very well in the rain. I rode about twice as far as I expected for my first ride of the season and my average speed was a bit over my usual speed. I also set a new PR for one Strava segment and improved my time on two others. Given my speed with the poor road conditions, my unscientific evaluation may be that the new tires were a huge improvement over the original Bontrager tires I had been riding.

25+ miles, mostly sunny, low-mid-80s, light wind. Weather Underground said the wind was from the S or SSW, but I could swear it came from the N for some of the ride. We're supposed to have a few more days that will hit 90+, then back to the 60s.

Went up Topanga Canyon Road in the Palisades this afternoon (36 miles) for around 1,250 ft. elevation/hills. Would have gone much further except I remembered that I promised my sig. other that I would make dinner so I curtailed the ride...

Another great 101 mile ride with the great folks from High Point. Today we rode out of downtown Kannapolis. Liz, Amy and Jimmy joined us so a nice group of 7. Got a pinch flat hitting a pothole really hard. Gouged out the sidewall and took a small chunk of carbon out of the wheel above the brake track. Fortunately the sidewall lasted 85 more miles without a boot.

Footlong hot dog special!

Today’s group

Good folks!

A nitro stout

Flat change....see the Corona?

Hard hit

The beers at Old Armor Beer Company tasted extra good afterwards!

We’re now tuned up and ready for the 300 miler to the beach in a couple weeks!!

First real ride in a long time. Beautiful day in the Farmington Ga area. I have been fixing up this bike for some time trying to find the right set up. I may have found it. I even did a nice stretch of gravel road. It rode great!

Wow it was nice to get out and ride!

22+ miles, high 70s, 10-20 mph NW & W winds. Had to dig hard going uphill against the wind during the first half of the ride. I could have sailed home. I do enjoy having the wind at my back on the way home.
