Hi,

I have been riding in Arabian Mountain and Panola mountain trails in Lithonia, GA. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE these winding and hilly trails with beautiful scenes. The average elevation on these trails is between 880-990, and elevation gain around 700-1500.

I am looking for other trails around GA, TN, SC (focus on GA) with elevation at least 500 or elevation gain 800 (numbers don't need to be exact, but I am just looking for trails similar to Arabian mountain trails with higher elevation gain)

Welcome any suggestions and inputs.

fwiw - I was looking at some trails I've done & might do again soon. saw an old note, something like this: "next time start at the lower end, so that the return trip is mostly down grade"

IDK what mileage you are seeking, but the Atlanta Beltline has a bit of elevation on the Westside trail, and the Stone Mountain trail and particularly in the park itself has a bit of elevation. I can only imagine that the trail that runs out to the monastery (the "something" river trail, it won't come to me) has a bit. If you take the Silver Comet West from around the Brushy Mountain area, it's got a bit as well.

Since there are not many long continuous paved trails out of road, I will be happy if I can find a few that are at least 4-5 miles.

I'm very happy with the monetary and the "" river trails you referred to (they are parts of the path in the county parks systems. HOWEVER, I'm moving. That's why!!!!

A suggestion I make is to utilize Google Maps.

Type in the address or area you are moving to. Go to layers and select "biking". There have been some changes to the mapping as of late, but from what I recall you will see bold green lines which are paths or select bike lanes. The dotted lines are bike routes that may or may not have an actual bike lane, and the red/brown will be dirt or gravel paths.

Juan, thanks. Good to know what the map legends refer to. I use Trailinks and Alltrail as well as google maps to find trails, yet it's hard to combine different systems of maps to come up with areas where I may be interested. Different colors and legends indicating different things. I am often confused with dotted or solid lines for paved or unpaved hiking/biking paths.

I did not know how to use LAYERS on google maps. BUT now it's so helpful to see everything there with GREEN SOLID paths

Problem with finding paved bike trails/Multi-use trails, that climb, is they tend to be converted rail trails and those generally don't climb, nature of the beast, they wanted flat and easy for trains.

Yes, I've noticed that too. I like Silver Comet being long and paved off road, YET it's relatively FLAT. I love Panola Mountain+ Arabian Mountain PATH trails, for they are in PARKS but not converted from rails. Much better workout with fun of ups and downs

The Mobile Social did a ride and "park tour" out there a few years ago. The wife and I went on our tadpole recumbents (Catrike). We were WELL behind the group coming up hills and then having to holler "on your left" as we came blazing down. Super fun ride and great scenery out there.
