42 Miles, either I'm getting spoiled or I'm not bundling up as much as I did before the temps got getting a little warmer. Rode up into the mountains, was cold descending at 35 mph. Started up another road till the hills started looking very steep and very long. They were doing some prescribed burning on the second road. There was a mile where the burn had reached the edge of the hwy. The smoke was as bad as the worst last year when there were 5 forest fires burning near here. Last year I had to wear a thick HEPPA fine particle respirator for over a month. So much for the crisp, clean, clear mountain air.

Brain is trying to switch gears to get into bike mode. I'm no longer made for speed. spent an hour in a lap pool. traffic was minimal. no trucks, well, it's Sunday here. so duh-h-h.

I think I'm a fish. Funny feeling on the side of my neck. Are gills trying to form? That's not going to look good.

Back to biking! Still working on turbulence solution for my ears. Low budget wind solution for eyeglass wearers is almost done.

25 miles Saturday and 30 Sunday. Training for close to a year, and still teaching the muscles to rotate the spindle. Along with breathing properly. Very close to fitting road cycle to my body and understanding all the attributes to gearing. Track cycle being powder coated. Weather just approached over 50 as up till last week Thursday I rode 15 miles in light hale and snow with a high of 40 degrees.
Enjoy

Met a neighbour for the 1st time Saturday when I was out puttering around on a vintage. He asked me if I'd like to ride on Sunday. Sure.

Found out on Sunday morning that he hasn't ridden his bike in 10 years. I was all kitted and ready for anything, but we had a nice conversation and about 8 miles of trails. He's physically in good shape and retiring in a few weeks, so I guess I have no alternative but to get the kid up to speed quickly so as to have another riding partner. Nice fellow.

18.0 miles (29.0k) on a Kiwanis Coffee Riders group ride. Got a little windy.
In Feb Drs. put me on 60mg/day of Prednisone (massive dose) as part of the malfunctioning kidney treatment. Gained 22 lbs in 4 weeks, reduced it to 40mg, hate this steroid. 4 weeks of Rituximab infusion and they still don't know if it did any good. Duh! I'll find out in another week whether I died. Whichever way I go, I'm taking at least one of my bicycles with me!

22 easy paced miles Monday, between cruising and errands. Too restless to get much done at home Monday, was supposed to be resting my neck, but couldn't sit still. Grabbed the Univega hybrid for a casual loafing cruise and some errands. Put the cushy Lycra covered gel foam saddle back on, which is kinda squishy but comfortable for that kind of bike. Made sure the tires weren't over-inflated. Thought about installing lower profile flat bars for better aero performance but, nah. The slight riser bars are comfortable. I might even try some more relaxed handlebars.

25 miles on a bright, sunny, low humidity but very blustery afternoon. Ya’ gotta love FL weather -we have had a gorgeous spring thus far.

My regular 40 miles this morning. Nice and windy but hot and humid. Rode the ACE today. First time in a year that i’ve ridden it. Getting the CRS ready for the MS150. I didn’t transfer the aerobars and that made the headwinds this morning a bit more work.

51 Miles on a 75° day. It's been a long time since it was that warm here. Felt liberating to wear just shorts, short sleeved jersey and fingerless gloves. Wore my vintage Mapei Jersey, very colorful. Even wore my sun sleeves today, haven't put on any sunsblock yet. Chased the first snake of the year off the tarmac, an 18" garter snake. I guess it will soon be the season of lots of roadkill snakes. Saw my first lizard of the year today too. Lots of people out riding today, especially after 4:00, after work. Here in the high desert the warmest time of the day is 3:00 to 5:00. Cools off very quickly after 6:00.

Don't tend to carry a camera, don't have a phone, did ride my 60s Rollfast Rosa for about two hours. Still waiting for the CORRECT length fender braces to fit my nicely repainted red and white DX fenders on Darla my straightbar ~'54 Hornet (the same length was sent and back they went)...

When that's done THEN you will have some fine pics of it They look very peachy even unsecured at the LBS!

Had my saturation prostate biopsy on Monday under a general and asked my Dr. in recovery how soon I could get back to riding. His reply was "as soon as you want" so of course I went food shopping yesterday before dinner and then for an easy 10K ride following dinner after putting the Easy Seat on the grocery grabber. Pedaling much slower than normal I got the rides in without issues.

headwind

Got a one day break in rain a couple days ago and rode into town and back (25mi). I live on top of the mountain and the headwind going in was so bad I had to use granny gears to get down it.

20.6 miles (33.2k). First ride this year without a jacket, just jersey and windbreaker. Nice sunny day, mostly no wind.
Had a nice visit with two cuties from the VA Pharmacy yesterday. Too much sodium from all the pre-processed meals (single, don't cook, I nuke) causing the high blood pressure. Hemoglobin count still low but they said as long as I can climb on a bicycle and ride 20 miles, I'm fine. Just don't fall off. Still waiting for results of kidney treatment.

We are in between storm fronts, so today I had only a short window of opportunity before the rains began this evening.
The sky was clear when I started out this morning, but by the end of my ride it was severely overcast. But I made it home dry after a 2 hour, 2 min ride.

60 very windy miles this morning. Didn’t get the aerobars on the backup bike yesterday so my bad shoulder was really bothering me by the end of the ride.

C’mon John, Floridians love the fun and adventure of getting blown around to bits in the invisible hills. As long as we keep the rubber side down......

I’m home early from work for a follow up GI appointment, then out for a nice, windy ride later on.
