17.1 miles (27.5k). Finally an almost-summer day. The spirit is willing but the blood is tired. Nice ride anyway.

Put them on and went for the around-the-block shakedown ride. It was dusk, so convinced my wife to follow in the car and give a review while I set my tail light into its different modes. (This light is a Lupine Rotlicht which is insanely expensive but it is a nice light. Got it from Bike24 in Germany). Anyway the new cleats make for a way-better clip-out experience so I guess that was money well-spent. Tomorrow I will do my normal 50 miler to Oahu north shore and back up our 1000' Pineapple Hill.

It’s the norm around these parts but it’s great training. Nice climbs plus fun descents.

Re Look Keo pedals......on my 100 miler with friends last Saturday I got a really loud knocking in my drivetrain while pedaling. We stopped but couldn’t find anything. Fortunately the noise went away. A few days later I noticed the front of the cleat had broken off due to wear. I guess the front piece must have fallen out of the pedal when we stopped. I’d never had that noise before. It was really loud and annoying.

51 Miles. Another Beautiful day. Up here in the high desert, 3,700', 6:00 PM is usually the warmest part of the day. As I was finishing my ride, the sun was shining so bright and the sky so blue and cloudless. A lot of clubs meet after work and have great weather. In a month or so, daytime temps will be in the high 90°s so I'll enjoy these 75°-85° days as long as they last. I know where the irrigation canals, rivers and parks where I can cool off when it gets hot are. This ACE inhibitor and the beta blocker my cardiologist gave me are really kicking my but. The long hills I used to fly up now are a painful grind and I have to stop at the top of the last one to rest before the last 5 miles home. But I remember one day maybe 10 years ago I was about two hours out, it was very hot, my feet, back and everything else hurt, and I was hungry. I had another two hours to go and I was approaching a very long very steep hill that could only be called Hors catégorie, when a wasp flew into my jersey and stung me. All I could think, and really meant it was "God I love this, this is one of the best days of my life, great day to be alive!" I'll never forget that day. So I guess If you're not suffering, you aren't riding hard enough, although easy cruising at 20-24 MPH on the nine mile stretch of smooth on the way out is pretty good too. So I'll keep struggling up these hills, if it gets too hard, there is a much easier way home, without that last climb.

19.4 miles (31.2k). First week of June and the morning air is still cold. I'm wearing long sleeves tomorrow. But it was nice n' sunny and I had a little more energy.

54 Miles another beautiful day. I didn't feel fatigued today, I think I'm getting used to these pills the cardiologist gave me. I did ride a little slower than normal, that had to help.

I’ve been thinking of riding today but have not actually done so. Average non-moving speed: a good solid null.

Nominal recovery commute today after 46 mile roundtrip yesterday but I went pretty fast. Possibly overcaffeinated.

21.0 miles (33.8k). Long sleeves but sunny, and yet another rear flat on the Continental 25C Rear. They are really difficult to get off the rim but I do get good performance and lotza miles (should top 3,000). Gonna replace them with Specialized Turbo Pro 26C.

I got in 100 minutes yesterday and again today. I woke up to yet another flat tire today. It's the third one in the past month, but I found the cause. It was a slice across the tire, which probably was a result of a pothole I hit the other day.
To make matters worse, the tires on my Wabi Special appear to have been discontinued. So, I made a trip to the closest bike shop and picked up a Bontrager brand tire. I now have mismatched tires. Why do bicycle tires cost as much as auto tires?

Saddle time with recovery spinning., 50km. Reeaallly nice day. No rain for weeks, so humidity around 50%.
The AD is the rain bike and ski season nudged it out until the dry Spring arrived, where it's fenders have not been needed. Getting to know an old friend again.

20 miles today as a bike commuter. Seat frame of my commuter 'bent broke - new frame should be here any day but in the meantime rode ti long wheelbase bike today and stuck it in my office even though its probably of no interest to random thieves. Have locked bikes to racks in various garages of the hospital where I have worked for 31 years with no problems but would hate to have anything happen to my ti baby.
This past weekend participated in a club tandem weekend at New Harmony IN. Rode a total of 100 miles over three days. Almost entirely rural and with lots of rolling hills. Near Evansville near the Ohio and Wabash Rivers.

19.5 miles (31.4k). On the cold side again this morning. I'm past "ready" for summer. A deep inspection (yet again) of that rear Continental flat yesterday revealed a tiny piece of glass embedded inside the tire from a small outside cut. Just enough on the underside to rub a hole in the tube. Probably been there a long time.

I got in 103 minutes on another very warm late Spring day. During the past week we have been enjoying low humidity, but that's gradually increasing every day now.

51 Miles on my usual route. Third ride in a row someone cut me off. Today in a very small town, population around 50. a woman came out of a side street where she had a stop sign, she waited until I entered the intersection, pulled out in her huge Chevy Suburban, took up all of the lane and then 1/2 of the bike lane. I had to hit the brakes to avoid her. A block later she stopped for a woman crossing the street and I commented to her that she almost hit me. She drove off. A few days earlier I was riding on the shoulder 20 mph, to the right of the white line when a van passed me and turned immediately in front of me onto a side street. It was very deliberate. I had to stop as fast as I could and still would have hit it if I didn't take an emergency fast right turn onto the same street. Most people out here are very courteous to bikers, but we have a few ranchers who hate everything except Trump.

Also today on my ride home there is a long steep decent into the river valley that I can reach speeds of 35 mph easily for most of the way down. I pedaled hard all the way down in my 52/11 gear, then coasted the last few hundred yards. I then tried to pedal but the crank just spun. I looked down expecting to see a dropped chain, but there was no chain, I looked behind me and it was still held by my rear derailleur but I was dragging about two feet of it behind me. The SRAM Powerlink had come loose somehow. I carry an extra in my tool kit so I wasn't stuck. I just recently switched to Rock N Roll Absolute dry chain lube and after 15 minutes of wrestling with my chain my hands were still clean, just a little wax on them that came right off. I like this stuff, I don't think it's recommended for use in the rain.

Wednesday was a perfect riding day in southern New Jersey. 70s temp, light wind, some clouds. So I did 101 miles in about seven hours of riding and eight hours total. First century since 2015. Knees mildly annoyed by my madness.

19 miles as a bike commuter today. Random chances of rain today and ran into a storm near start of ride home. Sprinkles turned into heavy rain as I rode by the Indiana Statehouse but then it went away a couple of blocks to the south. Dry the rest of the way home. Was actually refreshing - no thunderboomers, just rain.

Longest ride in 2 years, 13 miles at the Parklands, untimed. God bless muscle memory. Flat course and low gearing didn’t hurt, either.

Got back Wednesday from our Alaska Cruise. Today was my first ride in 3 weeks so it was out the door at 12:05AM for a very warm 76 miles. A MUST shower and kit change, grabbed a bite to eat along with a few zzzzzzz's since I only had 90 minutes of sleep last night. Got back out and was able to suck-wheels for 15 miles then on my own for a total of 126 miles.

Yep, about 65 mostly solo miles. I wasn't trying for solo, but lost the group on a big climb. That seems to be happening a lot this year. Honestly though, sometimes it's just nice to pluck along at one's own pace

I've been getting lazy about posting lately. Got rained out on Wednesday and it looked as if I was going to get rained out on Friday since it was drizzling when I got ready to leave. After I decided not to ride, the sun came out and stayed out all day. Unfortunately, the wife took the van (with the bike in it) and didn't get back from shopping until late afternoon. So for this week:

Tuesday: 40 miles
Thursday: 64 miles
Today: 72 miles
