Barn Find # 2
The other day, i picked up a nice Barn find. 1983 Schwinn Voyager 11.8 It looks like it has almost no miles on it. (Once I clean the dust and grim off of it from sitting around all these years.) My question is this, was the bike the top of the line for touring? (Back in day.)

The Schwinn Voyageur 11.8 wasn't offered in 1983, only the Voyageur SP and the Voyageur. Has to be '82 or earlier. Even in '82, the Voyageur SP, Super Sport, and Super Sport SP were above it in Schwinn's touring lineup.

I think most of the 11.8 models had three main tubes butted, and the rest of the bike was whatever they used that was cheaper than a full tube set.
I worked up one here some years back, rebuilding wheels and a complete overhaul of the mechanicals.
If it had one thing to complain about, it was the Araya rims that had little or no hook, so it limited tyre pressure to about 60-70 psi.
The components on mine are nothing to brag about, but they are functional and basic. They work well, so I have not replaced them.

Done. I'll need new brakes too as the ones that came with the bike wouldn't reach the new rims. It "should" be ready to ride in two weeks. The shop needs to order parts and there is a lot of work to be done the bike. Wish me luck. Pic when it gets out of the shop.
