Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I guess if he lived there at one time, it may have been godforsaken.

Add to that the fact that it's like 0F half the winter, snow eight months a year, winds strong enough to blow trucks over. Yada, yada, yada.

Trucks remaining upright and warm weather: Both overrated.

Accidentally left the house with an empty bidon.

Had to hit the Sonic for a Dragonfruit Red Bull slushee.

Never thought I would ever say this:

Really nice climb today. Main section is 6.5 miles and averages just 3.5% with a few 7-8% sections that takes you up just over 1k feet. Overall it was 40 miles with just shy of 3k elevation gain.

It helps that its so pretty here.

The landscape is similar here, but with more spiky plants, rattlesnake and coyotes, but less sage and pronghorn.

My Dad was offered a transfer to Rock Springs in the early 70's. He was in finance, and that's when it started to "boom", based on energy. It was the only time he asked our opinion, and he was voted down by the highest margin possible.

How good could a peach be in early June? They really need a couple months of heat.

New bits for the new Lotus are starting to arrive. Tires, cables, one pair of brake pads (I found two sellers with one pair each). I figure tonight I'll rebuild and true the wheels. If I'm feeling ambitious, maybe take the whole thing down. We'll see. I should have everything I need soon. Except the NDS crank arm, which I at least have a line on.

The outside was kind of soft, so it seemed like it might be ripe. Inside? Nope.

In South Central PA, peach season is in August. The hottest, sweatiest part of the summer. I remember, because one summer I had a job on the crew cleaning the plant between the 4PM-2AM and the 6AM-4PM shifts - peaches are ripe when they're ripe, and they're all ripe then, so you have only that two weeks to process all of them. The plant was not air conditioned, and even at 2 AM after running all day it was STILL HOT.

My neighbors just returned from Georgia and brought me a bag of authentic Georgia peaches. Had one today for lunch. Perfectly ripe, juicy, and good.

Some areas outside the city had massive flooding yesterday and this morning due to storms. Looks like we might get more in a couple of hours.

And I saw a dead rat right in the middle of a walkway that leads to a popular fountain area where I often eat lunch. Big tourist draw.

Former peach plant cleaner genejockey informed us that this is against the laws of nature.
