I picked up this ‘74 Int’l frameset from @Andy_K over the winter, built it up with various bits I had around, but it wasn’t until today that I had a chance to give it a test run:








Huret mechs worked surprisingly well with very little lever throw needed to shift the RD. These Weinmann center pull brakes with steel straddles also work really well, but usually don’t have enough reach for what I need. However, on this frame, they worked. Saddle is a recovered Brooks from @rhm. Only problem is that I had to stop three times to tighten the NDS crank arm bolt. That’ll need some attention. Overall a smooth rider.

Beautiful day. First day in the 80s this year. First ride in shorts and t-shirt. For various reasons, too awkward to get in to, I have been off the "good bikes" for 6 months. In the winter I use the winter bikes and the stationary and one bike on the rollers. Then on April 1st the good bikes come down the stairs and back to work. I've been getting re-aquainted with my Raleigh and its still a great bike. Today was 30 miles on the Schuylkill River Trail, tracking the river all the way.

After 69 1/2 years, my first selfie. Didn't it come out great. I should get one of dem snapper chat things. I could be a social influencer, ummm?

I received Sacha's cremains back Monday, and did the first scattering where she enjoyed her last day out: Edmonds Beach. Today was the first scattering during a bike ride, my normal 20 out n' back to Marymoor Park. I picked a spot on the south banking of the velodrome - conveniently next to a survey marker:



The mountain was out, too:



On the way home I ran into a buddy, Lee, riding in the opposite direction. I decided some extra mileage (and a couple climbs) couldn't hurt and joined him in heading for points south for another hour or so before peeling off and making for home for real.

The riding is making the transition easier, but I still walk in the door expecting my little furball to greet me with that special "where's my dinner?" meow. Ain't happening, I know. Just going to take some more time.

1948 Robin Hood , racing saddle, swallow path-racer handlebars - doesn't really go with pannies, chaincase and front and back drum brakes. Don't know what I was thinking when I put this lot together. So got sent to the 16th century Guildhall to explain myself. Man is this bike rear end heavy and that's before my fat butt got on it.

Got this shot in just before the rain came. Bitter easterly wind blowing here - been so for nearly a month. Southern UK is a windy place but wind from the east lasting more than a few days is extremely rare.

Rode about 30 miles in regular clothing on a sunny day with a nice, cooling breeze. Scattered a few more ashes at a couple spots. I've been giving this a chance lately and it's actually become my favorite saddle:

Yesterday and today rode a Campagnolo equipped BMC bike to and from work. Nice ride and takes some getting used to. I liked the stem reach and handlebar positions so I may go with something similar on my Lemond build.

I'm lucky to have friends that can loan me these bikes.

Over the past few days I went on some nice afternoon rides in Santa Cruz with an old friend. I camped at New Brighton State Beach while I was down there.




But my real reason for being in Santa Cruz was to help my friend move into his new shop space. My main task was sort and organize an ever-expanding collection of vintage parts which had accumulated in random unmarked boxes over the years.

Lookout Mountain and Red Rocks. My longest ride (66) and most climbing (5100+) to date.

Every time I see it I’m in awe of the beauty of Red Rocks. Been a few years since I saw a show there, but for anyone coming through Denver the park is a great place to explore and the concert venue is something to behold.

Where in Santa Cruz?
I used to live outside the city in the Scotts Valley/Felton direction. Many years prior to 2004. Bought the Calfee when they were in part of the old Wrigley Gum factory (north side of town, end of the RR tracks).

I should go to ride there again.

Ha you make a good point! It was a fantastic descent down US-40 on the opposite side. Perfect weather. More traffic than usual (didn't think about that on a Friday compared to a weekend, but makes sense) and always a little iffy riding in the two lane 55mph zone without much of a shoulder. Strava tells me I got up to 50, no computer anymore but guessing more like 45 is accurate. 5+ miles of 25+, puts a smile on your face for sure. Definitely more fun and smooth with steel and 33mm tires versus my old aluminum/carbon with 25mm, as the road is a little beat up. One of the most fun aspects of that descent is there's only one kind of sharp curve so you can tuck (or pedal if that's your style) and let it fly... Didn't stop to take any pictures because it's not very scenic and who wants to stop while they're having fun!

40 miles on the old Peugeot today. Found a treasure, a tractor junkyard and in it was an old Case tractor. I had an uncle who farmed in North Dakota who swore by and at Case tractors. I hadn't seen one of these in 50 years.

Last days rides have been ‘2 a-days’ - from home to Maple Valley and return. I seem to be in a rut regarding the route. But it has a bit of everything = road, trail (paved + packed w light gravel), descents at speed and a climb or two.
Hopefully, lots of these rides coming this Cycling Season. 3 a week nets 100+ miles.

Mission Street Extension, just off Swift Street.

I also lived in Felton long ago, 1977-78 to be exact. That's when my friend Paul and I met, working together in a bike shop on Mission Street. The shop was "The Bicycle Center" at the time. It's had a couple other names and a couple other owners since then, but it's still a bike shop.
