Need help with replacing 7 speed Cassette on tricolor 600
Hi Guys,
I am currently running a 7 speed hyperglide cassette with a spacer on the 6402 hub (6402 hub came with 8 speed but I prefer my old 7 speed groupset so I added a ring and swapped it to 7 speed back then),
Now it's time to replace the cassette since it's skipping and I've tried replacing the chain but it was still doing it.
The problem is that I couldn't seem to find any replacement 7 speed cassette for it, the common ones I saw online are all starts with 11t, and I heard that the 6402 hub doesn't work with 11t.
So what are my options? Can I use CS-HG200-7 on 6402? CS-HG200-7 has 12-28T.

I am pretty sure the cassette will fit the hub, with the spacer, but I don’t recall the max cog for 600 RD.

Minimum cog is 13 teeth and max 28 for 7 speed hyper glide.
Uniglide may permit a 12 tooth threaded cog.
eBay will have something.

Amazon has 12.28 HG200 Tourney cassettes for $21. Hards to get cheaper than that but eBay has a bunch too.
Just get a CASSETTE not a FREEWHEEL. Anything Shimano, SRAM or Sunrace is compatible.

With the 8 cogger, you're changing the spacing a little bit, I think. But in my applications, it didn't seem to matter.
If you've got 7 speed indexing, you can either run it in friction, or dial out the 8th position with the limit screw, and adjust the indexing to work best in the middle range. This is usually all you need for it to work OK.

I'm running a Shimano 8-speed 12-25 cassette on a bike with a 7-speed group. I just skip the big cog and ride the first seven 12-23 cogs. With a 53/39 chainring and our mostly modest roller terrain it works okay... at least when I'm in shape. I haven't been able to ride much for a few months due to vertigo from a persistent upper respiratory inflammation, but when I rode that bike a couple of times in October it was fine even on the most challenging segments of my usual routes with some short-ish grades that max out at around 8%, but average 2%-3% overall.
I have some SunRace 7-speed cassettes with 11T small cogs, mostly in the 11-28 range. They work fine, but I don't care for the somewhat awkward steps around the middle cogs. Doesn't flow as well as the closer spaced 12-25 cassettes. And I don't like 11T small cogs on any bike. They feel grindy. The chain wrap is too tight for bike chain link lengths. The smallest cog I've tried that turns without feeling grindy and lossy is 12T, but I prefer 13 unless I'm feeling really strong and want to try for a PR on a couple of time trial segments. (I haven't felt particularly strong this year and at age 64 it ain't getting any better.)
I'd prefer 12-25, 12-28, or 13-25 or 13-28 in both 7 and 8 speeds, but the cassettes and freewheels I want are still in short supply due to the ongoing shipping slowdowns so I'll make do with what I have for now. That 8-speed 12-25 came with an older Mavic wheelset I bought from a guy back in August or September.
