I got my pristine 86 for 100 but it had 700c wheels and a steel frame 😏

I hate to argue, but based on what I've seen, Cankles is the first '85 I've seen WITHOUT a pump peg. Mine certainly has one, painted 'titanium' just like the head tube. Maybe the peg was introduced later in the model year?

Painted "Titanium", just like the head tube. Plus I've seen pump pegs on other '85s.

I didn't take any pictures of my future son in law and myself riding the iMs today in the rain. He on an 87 MV with full 7700 and I on an 89 Expert with 10 speed 105. That 89 rides so nice. 30 miles and 2500 feet.

1985 Ironman
Pretty much original—replaced chain, freewheel, rim tape, tubes, tires, brake lever hoods (Dia-Compe 202/204), bar tape and plugs. I think my other bikes will be jealous. Sachs FW with a PC850 and new shift cables are FrictionPerfection. Brakes are acceptable with original cables, housing and cleaned up pads.

Big ring for the picture looks dumb on the big cog.

prices have come down for the holiday. For years, I played a game of filling my 15 gallon tank with regular and hitting $60.00. This year I had to change the rules to make it more challenging.

Nice Turbo , this ad is in the Orange County Ca. CL . Not mine and I don't know the owner , friendly price of $250 . . Note the lack of a pump peg .

WV is not flat..
Picked up this 1988 Ironman today. Full 600 Tri-Color group and 60cm in decent shape. Should clean up pretty nice. The Avenir saddle is missing the cover, so that's what they look like underneath. Tried just a quick spray to clean up the white hoods and they popped right up. That is very lucky because these hoods are almost non existent. My first Ironman.

NIce. You will love it. Looks to be very low milage with OG tires. Come springtime, with retensioned wheels, nice tires, a fresh Turbo or Concor, and your other bikes will be crying, neglected in the corner of the garage.

Update on the Prestige before I finish it. I read on the net that you could use the next speed up shifters with the "orphan" 7400 series RD. Since I had some 7 speed brifters on hand, I gave it a try so I would know. Survey says, ......not. Not even close. Now I won't have to wonder.

Coulda told ya. 7-8 speed DT shifters will work, tho. Or your favorite friction bar ends.

I wasn't go to use them, but I had to know for myself. Since it's a rare bike in good condition, I will keep it stock. The freewheel and chainrings might change, but that's about it besides the tubulars. The front wheel and it's match will go on in place of the originals. Campy Record hubs, the clincher version of the rims, and those tires sent to me from one that shall remain nameless. A 7400 with the long cage swap might go on some time in the future. I managed to acquire a RD-6207 with a broken limit screw along with some shifters and brake levers for $10. I repaired the limit screw so now the RD or just the cage is operational. Hmmmm.
