Utah Bike Thefts

Just saw a headline that bike thefts in Utah have spiked recently. The article is behind a paywall of the Salt Lake Tribune. First I've heard.
Any Utahans care to comment?
How about elsewhere?

This is the blurb google gives me above the link to the article:

Provo police data shows 176 bicycles were reported stolen in 2019, but 241 thefts were reported in 2020. So far, just over 200 bikes have been reported stolen this year, according to data obtained by The Tribune.
Sounds like that's just Provo (college town).

Only a few bikes stolen here out of garages but what gets stolen like crazy are catalytic converters. They are being stolen right and left even in very nice parking lots (I would know, my friend whom I was out to dinner with last week had his nicked when we returned to his car.) Our water company truck was hit yesterday and one car a day in our small town gets hit. Have to be extremely careful where you park these days - or drives pre-cat car.

Lots of Catalytic converters being stolen around here too, one less thief though. A few nights ago, car fell off the jack as thief was cutting the converter off, vehicle owner found him the next morning, quite dead.

I'm no math wiz, but it sure sounds like it spiked in 2020 and went back down in 2021. Are they expecting a holiday rush?
