all of these concerns, when written, were in the context of "if we don't do something about this...". Often, adjustments were made. Article fails to take this into consideration.

In addition, it's probably better for us to be living thinking about the dangers and negative effects of our actions than blithely bouncing along doing whatever we want without regard for how anything else is affected. We have in fact seen in the past how well that goes... over-hunting of certain animals, over-deforestation, the use of heavily-polluting factories and cars. I'm not even going to go there with population.

I liked Michael Crichton. Not only did he write the movies “Westworld” and “Jurassic Park,” but he was a Harvard MD, and Salk Fellow. He had written for years about the use of fear as a tool of manipulation and diversion, and though he is often cast as right-wing character, he stands more fully on the grounds of objectivity and common sense, which are hard things to find nowadays.

I'm totally skeptical of everything, simply because humans like to have the sh*t scared out of them; combine this with the money-making operation that is the media and it's a perfect recipe for what we see today. BTW, that's NOT to say that the problems listed in the article are not real problems, but they should only be addressed with reason and science. Not by people with agendas.

History never ends. I think referencing perspectives and predictions past help us relate and make comparisons to what we are currently passing through. From the beginning of this current debacle, and within about two weeks, I had an opinion developed based on intuition plus prior study of unpopular history, and since then that basis of understanding has been nothing but validated as the last two years have progressed.
I think Michael Crighton, including others, look at predicted future scenarios held onto and pervaded in the popular realm currently, then compare them to track records of similar predictions by similar institutions, and then laugh.
