Mt. Diablo Challenge this Saturday
Anyone going? I’ve never climbed Diablo before. It took me an hour and 20 min to climb Tunitas from the Bike Hut this weekend, and I think Diablo will be harder.

If you can climb Tunitas, you should be able to climb Diablo with the possible exception of The Wall (the last 200 yds or so of roughly 17* to the top that is just plain nasty after ten miles of climbing), but I don't think there is any shame in walking up that. Including rest stops, it takes me about 2.25 to 2.5 hours to get up Diablo (Southgate). (It takes me a lot less time to get back down.

It's an amazing event. It took me 5 tries, but I finally got a 1-hour t-shirt a few years ago. One of my most prized cycling mementos.

I'm chugging my way up this Sunday.. 1:20 is my best time. No way in hell I do sub 60min (Caloso that is a very nice achievement)

. One of these years I will try and devote a season training specifically for this event. Not sure I can get there, but would be the biggest highlight of my cycling life for sure!

I'm volunteer staff. I should be hauling backpacks to the top, and driving escort back down.

It was some great weather, and there were big gaps in the leader groups. This guy climbed The Wall like a goat on crack.

Czech climber Leopold König won the Amgen Diablo stage in 2013 but must not have a public Strava profile.
