Mt. Diablo Challenge this Saturday
Anyone going? I’ve never climbed Diablo before. It took me an hour and 20 min to climb Tunitas from the Bike Hut this weekend, and I think Diablo will be harder.

If you can climb Tunitas, you should be able to climb Diablo with the possible exception of The Wall (the last 200 yds or so of roughly 17* to the top that is just plain nasty after ten miles of climbing), but I don't think there is any shame in walking up that. Including rest stops, it takes me about 2.25 to 2.5 hours to get up Diablo (Southgate). (It takes me a lot less time to get back down.

Remember, we don't have to get there fast, we just have to get there.

It's an amazing event. It took me 5 tries, but I finally got a 1-hour t-shirt a few years ago. One of my most prized cycling mementos.

I'm chugging my way up this Sunday.. 1:20 is my best time. No way in hell I do sub 60min (Caloso that is a very nice achievement)
Might be warmish... which will slow me down.

Good luck all of you. Try not to cause a big parking/traffic jam at the bottom. Thanks.

It's MY mountain
I'm volunteer staff. I should be hauling backpacks to the top, and driving escort back down.
Look for me in my DiabloScott T shirt... or they might make me wear a volunteer T shirt, not sure.
I'll be the guy at the bottom of The Wall playing COWBELL... not one of those dinky free things, a real Cuban percussion kind of one.
Here's my video from the 2019 version:

I think Tunites is more difficult.
This was a really fun ride, for sure going to do this again.

It was some great weather, and there were big gaps in the leader groups. This guy climbed The Wall like a goat on crack.

I was busy this year when it happened but next year my brother and I are definitely going to do it. We're both hoping to do it in about an hour.

The winner was 44', which is insane because that's almost sub 40' from the tire poppers. The record from the poppers is held by pros in the Amgen Tour, something in the 38 min range, so his time for this event is bonkers.

Everybody in the top 16 is either a pro during one of the Amgen stages, or an elite rider doing a previous Diablo Challenge.

Czech climber Leopold König won the Amgen Diablo stage in 2013 but must not have a public Strava profile.
