I just finished a nice ride this afternoon while the Patriots were playing. Very little traffic, and what there was was well behaved. I do hope the home team does well for the simple reason that I've noticed that some of the most aggressive drivers seem to have a Patriots sticker on their rear window. At least they will be off the road for a few hours on Fall Sundays..

I've always liked Superbowl Day for similar reasons or when the Huskies are in some playoff bowl or another and Ski slopes, cross-country trails and bike ways are much less crowded.

Usually the same thing in Philly. Just get home before the end of the game or if it’s a blowout for the other team.

That’s so odd as I have always found that NE Patriots fans have without question been the most courteous drivers on the road.
Here in NJ, Jets and Giant fans have also always been extremely courteous.

Yeah, I rode on Saturday during the Iowa - Penn State game. It was a half pavement half gravel ride and traffic was super low. It was really noticeable. I rode past a sports complex with about 6 softball games and 2 baseball games being played and heard multiple people cheer not for the games in front of them- so even those out and about were watching football.
Best part was I finished my ride with 10min left in the 4th so I got to see the good part of the game.

lol, I listened to the end of the game, in my car, on the way home from work yesterday. that was fun. but watching the last 1/2 of the extended Red Sox game on TV was more fun

During football games is a great time to ride. People are at the game or inside watching it on TV.

Maybe where you are, but the Pats stadium has a jail and a courtroom.

I like to go shopping during Penn State home games. And riding is usually good too. I have noticed there are large swaths of Pennsylvania where traffic is diminished during Penn State games.

I agree with the sentiment of the OP, which is that I'd rather be riding my bike than sitting and watching sports on TV.

Back when I golfed, a sport I gave up long ago, I'd find Sunday afternoons to be the perfect time for solo rounds. Could take my time, drop a couple of balls to hit and practice with.

I used to ride by Angel stadium in Anaheim on one of my regular routes. But traffic was completely unaffected because SoCal only cares about sport when the Lakers or Dodgers are playing for a championship.

When I moved to Missouri in 1979, we still had state wide "blue" laws. Most retail businesses by law were closed on Sundays and even grocery stores were prohibited from selling things like cook wear or baby diapers on Sunday. We even had a state wide rerferendum on the topic and a big majority of voters, like 2 to 1, chose to retain the blue laws. Within a year, however, our all wise State Legislature banned the Blue Laws.

Bicycling on Sundays was much more pleasant in the days of the blue laws. The big organized rides routinely started at the empty shopping center parking lots.

Yeah, back when I did road rides, I’d be sure to plan a nice long ride to coincide with our home college football games. Usually very nice fall afternoons.
