Differences between front and rear Ultegra BR-8070 caliper

So I am finding the Ultegra BR-8070 disc caliper as being front and rear specific at several online retailer websites. I did a quick search on Shimano and I can’t find any references to them being different. Does anybody know if they are different or is it something ancillary like an included mount or adapter? The pads retaining screw on both of mine are seized with stripped heads.

I think it's pretty much the mounting plates and maybe a few other little things that screw into it so it fits properly on the chain stay as opposed to the fork. The body itself is the same. Or at least appears that way to me.

Are you finding a big price difference between them?

Did you remove the clip from the rear of the screw?

Sorry, Had to ask

No difference in price but it seems like Competitive Cyclist currently only has fronts in stock.

OK, after taking a closer look at Shimano website it seems as if the fork mount is shown attached to the caliper. Perhaps thats the only difference. Id have to pull mine off to confirm if the caliper is screwed to that adapter or permanently attached.

There's no way it can be permanently attached as both front and rear should be usable with either 160 or 140 rotors.

Edit to add: when I took my bike in for some work, my LBS said the pad retaining screw on my rear caliper was super tight, probably also seized. They replaced the screw for me so I didn't need a new caliper just to fix that issue.

That’s what I was thinking but not certain. I drilled out the rear screw about 6 months ago and just use a cotter pin but I think the front is leaking oil from around one of the pistons. When I went to remove the pads to look for oil residue that’s when I found the seized screw and the thought of replacing them both entered my mind.

Thank you, that seems to confirm what I was hoping. I can order two fronts and simply remove the fork mount.

Why don't you just buy the proper front and back units then you won't have to hope you can cobble together stuff from the old brakes that you say already are giving you issues.

It's okay to use different online vendors. You don't have to order from the one that doesn't have what you want.

This place has both....

https://www.universalcycles.com/shop...s.php?id=90895

and other places claim that they expect new stocks by the first week of October which isn't that far off considering how long you seem to have been living with this issue.

True, I could just wait a few weeks.
