XTR Derailleurs on a road bike?
Hi! I was looking through listings for bikes and came across a specialized roubaix with full ultegra but using an XTR Deraullieur....
Is this normal given the XTR is a mountain bike groupset?
Does it affect performance on paved roads in a positive/negative way?

It's not very common. I think using road shifters with mountain derailleurs is only possible with DI2 (electronic shifting), but it does give you a wide range 1x road system.

Many road tandems use XT and XTR rear derailleur with road shifters. I have them on our tandem (though they are all relatively ancient 9spd. set ups) and they work flawlessly. I don't use any special cable routing or anything special doodads to change cable pull (though these 'doodads' are often needed for road levers to work with some V brakes.)

Used bike? 9 speed mtb rear derailleurs were a popular mod through road 10 speed. They enabled use of 32 and 34t cassettes when road rear derailleurs officially only went to 30t max. This changed with mtb 10 speed and road 11 speed.

It will work perfectly well as long as the pull ratios match.
Shifting may not be quite optimal if you use a smaller road cassette eg 11-25.

Shifting was decent using the standard XT (but not so much with the "shadow" derailleur).
