I like a saddle that is just a little bit on the slippery side. This is just to relieve any chafing that may occur if I were on a "sticky" saddle.

I love the slippery feeling of a leather saddle. If the saddle is not in the correct position, you will immediately slide off the place you want to be. That is incredibly helpful in getting the saddle position dialed in perfectly. Once setup properly I don't slide around on the saddle at all.

A saddle with more friction can hold you in a position that is not ideal making it harder to tell if it needs be moved forward or back.

Nope. Dead level. I don't slide in any other shorts. I mostly use "wave" saddles, because I'm pretty inflexible so I roll my pelvis forward, but I was sliding forward on EVERY saddle, including an old Rolls saddle, which is pretty flat.

On grippy saddles I find that when I return my arse to the saddle after having been out of it I often have to lift and reposition once or twice (like a wasp getting her ovipositor just right) to get things feeling right.

On less grippy saddles (no suede or perforations?) after I plop down I can just squirm a bit into a good-feeling position. I pretty much wear lycra shorts exclusively

Hmm. Is that what Velo-Orange's microfiber-covered saddles are trying to do? I have wondered.

For the record, I love my Brooks B17; smooth saddles for me.

On my bikes with synthetic seat coverings, I regularly Armor-All them. Not only does it make them slick, it is a fabulous preservative for any plastic on the bike, including tires.

I have a leather saddle with a cut-out (Berthoud, $$$$$). It developed a small raised dimple at the far end of the cutout, maybe a 2mm diameter deviation/rise, smaller than a pea.

I don't know if it is psycho-somatic or what, but I can no longer ride that thing without detecting its presence.

Small wonder 'The Shark' never really caught on.

The Shark looks like a very weird accident just waiting to happen.

Pearson. 1860. And still run by the same family. Not just a brand.

Depends on the bike and riding style. On my road bikes I prefer long nose saddles with smooth surfaces, so I can slide onto the nose or back easily. Helps for sprints, climbs, etc. On long rides it helps minimize saddle soreness and gives more positions to keep the legs fresh.

On my hybrids I prefer cushy or more flexible saddles with shorter noses and tend to stay planted in one position.

The idea of a “sticky” or “slippery” saddle both kind of gross me out.

In my experience, one can definitely lead to the other.

Did you get the version that came with a superlight racing seat belt? I liked that one!

Lol!
