Went out with the club this morning. It was about 40 degrees at the start, pretty unusual for here. About 10 of us climbed over into the next valley and my shifting got wonky. Figured out the cable was frayed when the thing started poking me in the finger.
One of my friends who is rehabbing from injuries was there and he wanted to turn back early so I went with him. He still dropped me on the climb but not as much as he used to. I was able to get into the second biggest cog for the climb but it felt like the cable was letting go so I didn't risk going to the big cookie back there.

5750 miles this year and most likely won't change the rest of the year. I'm ok with that.

A lifelong pure roadie (me) is finding himself preferring to ride off road. Today's circuit had been ridden in pieces, but never the full monty. It promises to become a favorite. Especially with a max speed of 72 km/hr and an average of half that, according to Strava. I haven't ridden that well since, well I've never ridden that well.
The wild pig sighting was a high point. Turns out they are critically endangered, in these parts anyway. What a treat!

No idea of annual mileage, but certainly more than the last two years. Maybe next year I'll keep track. Yeah, right.

Riding on the road on Friday turns out to have been a good idea. Today it alternatively threatened to rain, and then made good on the threat. So I did 2 hours on Zwift in France, where it was nice and sunny and the flowers were blooming. I managed to heat the garage up from 53 degrees to 59, as well as increasing the relative humidity. I should rent myself out as a 180W heater/humidifier.

Javelinas are native. Feral pigs aren't. I would not be surprised if the latter are displacing the former.

After 5 days, finally another entry in the UPS tracking. The Litespeed is now in San Pablo, <40 miles away. Supposed to arrive on Tuesday. I'm curious whether it shows up tomorrow, or UPS takes its own sweet time getting it across the Bay.

Lots of Strava Flyby activity today
No real desire to try and complete the Festive 500. Arguably I'm in a much better climate to make it not suck so much, but I still have to work all this week.
Who knows, maybe I'll put in some pre-work rides. Looks like I'm at 120km (75mi) so far, but that would still require an average of almost 76km (50mi) /day.
So yeah, like 18 miles every morning on work days and then a couple metrics on days off. Probably not going to happen.

I saw that guy - he appeared from below the rim carrying a complete backpack including tent, bag, and assorted gear. Wearing crampons. Clearly hiked down, camped, and hiked back up.
Frankly, I'm more SOB than rugged.
