Tacx Neo 2t, any long term users? How's it going?

Hey all,

So, yesterday I had the opportunity to get a lightly used Tacx Neo 2t for a really good price from a nice older gentleman nearby.

I haven’t had a chance to set it up yet but last night I stumbled on many discussions and videos about the longevity of these trainers. I have read many threads about dead trainers, bad bearings, etc. In particular is this issue of the bad bearings on the 2t not being serviceable like previous models.

Now I’m scared. I know this trainer works for now, but I’m worried it might not last long and as a second owner I’ll be out of luck.

Any long term users out there? Where are we on this bearing issue? Should I resell? For not much more money I could have gotten a CPO Kickr Core.

Thanks!

You have not gotten any responses, so I'll add my "not really what you asked for" answer. I have a second gen T2800 Tacx Neo (2018 version of the original) which has about 200 hours on it, and it has required no maintenance.

How well used is the trainer? My understanding is the bearing issue is uncommon, so if it's been used for a while and doesn't have the issue, it seems like you should be confident that it will be ok.

does not serviceable also mean not replaceable? i would not expect the bearings to go bad unless contaminated with dirt. keep it clean.

My Tacx Flux is 4 years old and has been trouble free. I expect to several more years from it before it might need attention.

Check out this group on Facebook. There are various issues that have been reported with all versions of the Neo trainer. If you follow other trainer brands and models you will find they also have some problems. Most of the Neo problems have fixes available which you will find discussed in this group. I have a Neo2 that I have been using heavily for 2.5 years and it has been trouble free.

I have one that I ride about 4 months/year. I'm a fair weather road rider. No issues with mine whatsoever. I use it powered, have (eventually) turned off the road effects that get old, and just ride in Zwift. I don't race. It's smooth, consistent, and brutally honest with regards to power. I like that it can simulate descending, the feel of the resistance, and the *silence* when riding. If you can swing it, it's a no-brainer, IMO.

I've got an original model NEO with hundreds of hours of use over 4-5 years and it hasn't skipped a beat. Rock solid.
