Rumble in new drivetrain

Hi, in changing out an old drivetrain for new components, it now has a rumble that can be felt up through the pedals ! All components were changed out for same bar the cassette (was 12-27T, now 11-28T)
  • Shimano 105 FC5700 10 speed double chainring 39T
  • Shimano 105 FC5700 10 speed cassette 12-27T / 11-28T
  • Shimano CN-6701 10 speed chain
In putting back on the old cassette the rumble is gone! I can understand a rumble if using mixed worn/new components but when all new im very puzzled. Any ideas? Thanks

Those are all quality components. Is your derailleur adjusted properly to the new cassette? Perhaps slight adjustment is needed (a turn or so on the adjusting barrel) to align to new cassette?

What was the make/model of the old cassette?

Is this happening on all/most of cogs of cass.?

Is this a asymmetrical chain? correctly aligned?

How's shifting front and rear?

My first thought is also which cogs the rumble is happening with. Without having the bike in front of us and doing the assessment hands on we can't pinpoint the problem without also suggesting a few possibilities that might not be happening. If the rumble is on the 11T cog only I would first check the cassette lock ring's diameter, too large (like the 12T cassette's one being used) a lock ring will not let the chain fully settle into the cog's teeth. I'm sure others will offer more possibilities. Andy

Bearings? Kind of a tumbling rumble noise/feel for me has been the hub (or freewheel) bearings, even with newer wheels/hubs
