Another interesting Raleigh:

Raleigh Lenton Vintage Grand Prix

Raleigh Lenton Vintage Grand Prix - $375 (Chevy Chase)

condition: good
make / manufacturer: Raleigh
model name / number: Lenton

Probably 1960 vintage Raleigh Lenten Grand Prix. Frame size is 21 inches. Mainframe tubes are Reynolds 531. Based on my research I believe the bike was repainted. I purchased it from the original owner who is almost 80 years old. That owner advised it was purchased when she was 14. I believe that she is off by 10 years. Regardless, it is in very nice shape. I pulled off the rack And the puffy seat and the bike looks much better. For the asking price I will include a decent leather saddle. There are some very expensive features and you can look them up on eBay or other sources:

Cyclo Benelux front derailleur-if you look at the picture you will see that it is rod actuated. They are rare and usually sell for over $100 on eBay. Campagnolo grand sport rear derailleur-again a classic item in very good shape you don't see them but I have them and that would be a Raleigh Heron crested double chain wheel-I think it might be 46 teeth/49 teeth, I did not count but it is a very small differencehubs do not match but my research indicates they are both from England and both from the 1950s

This is a bicycle for a collector. It is ready to go. I would recommend taking the bearings apart once you are past the honeymoon to make certain that the grease is in decent condition. This is for somebody who loves bicycles and realizes that it is rare and becoming more rare. It is too small for me otherwise I would keep it.

1984 Trek 970 frame & fork

Ya gotta wonder about some ebay sellers...

This guy has been re-listing this 1984 Trek 970 frame and fork for at least a couple of months, starting bid at $899 (a bit optimistic, if you ask me). Surprise, surprise, hasn't sold yet. I even contacted him about a month ago to tell him exactly what he had (year and size) based on the serial number, but he hasn't updated the ad at all, based on that info.

He also lists the vintage-trek.com website as "trekvintage.com," which of course leads nowhere.

Neat little Nishiki tourer.

NISHIKI RIVIERA GT TOURING ROAD BIKE

NISHIKI RIVIERA GT TOURING ROAD BIKE - $280 (North Bethesda)

I have this cool bike for sale. It has double butted CR-MO tubing designed by Kawamura in Japan. 52CM. The Vetta saddle is in good condition. It has a Sugino VP triple crankset, Suntour LePree derailleurs, Dia Compe brakes and Araya 27" aluminum rims. The wheels are straight and it`s ready to ride. This bicycle is great for long trips or just cruising around the city. It has new handlebar tape and tires.

Lugs, BB shell, dropouts suggest 1982-83 production. Nice frame, but as you note, "optimistic" price. I probably did some of the work on that frame.

That to me, counts as a grail bike, I see a few around and in fact, know someone with one. It's got one of those front derailleurs. Nice. I've usually seen the golden ones, so this is different. But no, I don't need to buy it but I do admire them.

Definitely a collector's item, I'll have to look at the one in town more closely. This one is indeed very unique.

Herons on the chainwheel.

That's right, it was 1983, same year as my 760. Serial #057491, size is 58cm.

Schwinn Super

Nowhere near the top of the line for vintage Schwinns, but the price of the bike seems good for the condition and components (Brooks saddle, dynamo).

1978 Peugeot UO8? $130

Spending too much time looking this morning, but this one is 10 minutes away from me.

Clean looking Peugeot here with nice paint and decals. My best guess is this is a 1979 UO8 "Sport'.

In that condition, in the Bay Area, the price isn't too far out of line. Paint looks minty.

VINTAGE 1960'S or 70'S GITANE HOSTELLER TOURING BICYCLE

About 3 years ago I found a Hosteller on CL priced at $90. I got it for $60. There are a few differences in this one and mine. Mine has Weinmann center-pulls and down tube shifters. The paint on mine is horrible. That said, at an auction the bike could be sold cheap or crazy high.

I don't see a lot of Hostellers for sale. If I were at the sale, I would take the bid to $75 maybe.

Edit: BTW mine has really desirable Simplex skewers.

It's not in bad shape from the photos, problem is those were the low end Peugeot with steel wheels that didn't stop well in the rain, and steel everything else, those low end components from Simplex were horrible, which all that steel made the bike heavy, and the frame was more than noodly...but even their high end PX10 were noodly. And a frame weak spot was at the rear dropout welds where the dropout were welded to the stays, they had a tendency to develop a crack there, and in the picture I see a line on the one but not sure if that's a crack or something else.
