Bike Winnipeg - Bike Tyranny Ride Oct 31, 2021
I'll be checking out a group ride tomorrow.

I completely disagree with many of this Bike Winnipeg groups' philosophies, and possibly agree with a few. As example, a 30 kmh city-wide residential street speed limit is madness and it will further frustrate those who drive. Thankfully, I don't think they'll achieve that (unless the City can find ways of making net revenue money off of speed violations). This group, as others similarly do, use bicycle transportation goodwill as a means to jam utopian "green" agendas down the rest of societys' throat.

That ride has nothing to do with bicycle advocacy, safety, or cycling in general. Why you’d post it here is beyond me. Good luck with the climate change rally.

Further down: "To encourage Winnipeggers to actively commute, they need a transportation system that allows them to safely, comfortably, and conveniently travel from point a to point b, they need access to safe bike storage, and they need affordable access to bicycles."
I consider "climate change" the weather. It will change no matter what we do.

You didn't read it. From the listing, 1st sentence, 3rd paragraph:

Since it shows expected temp is -1 -- 4 I would think a little global warming would come in handy for that ride.

Never did end up joining the ride. Started en route and big wet snowflakes started to fall. No thanks. Turned around and headed home. I didn't want a group ride with a bunch of communitarians that badly.

Reduced vehicle speed is one of the best improvements for driver safety.
However 30kph is too low, even for cyclists. For residential area 40kph is sufficiently low.

Maybe you live in the suburbs?
30kph on narrow residential streets lined with parked cars is absolutely reasonable. Speed limit is 50kph in this city but peeps regularly do 60-70 on arterials and then drive 50 on side streets which far too fast to react given the sightlines.

It's reality here. Residential speed limits in Minneapolis and St. Paul are now 20 mph. The campaign in favor was called "Twenty is Plenty"
I haven't heard many complaints.
Faster limits on boulevards, of course.
