Centurion - seller: "lightened by removing cross bar..."
Am I reading this correctly? Seller's description, from Wash DC CL:
The weather is perfect for biking, get out, get some exercise, feel good about yourself.
Originally a men's Green Centurion racing bike made in Japan. Lightened by removing cross bar, clothes guard and kick stand. The Winpista 2001 has manganese alloy tubing, Shimano, shifting/gears, racing pedals and front/back/tire reflectors.
Hundreds below new cost

UH WOW good thing this guy does not sell cars. "lightened by removing the seatbelts, airbags and frame!"

That has to be a joke. It must be...there's an unmolested mixte in the background of the photo. Though who knows, a grinder or sawzall could be right outside the frame.
And I really hope the bike is/was a 'Sport Deluxe' in those Miami Vice colors rather than a higher end Centurion.

I think it's a joke, but maybe I'm being naive and giving too much benefit of the doubt.

On the other hand, the components, particularly wheels and fork, wouldn't be bad for $60.

you know the funny thing is, he never stopped to wonder why the bike bicycle companies never tried to lighten the frame in this method.

There were some similar 'designs' from other companies. I can't recall exactly. Some sort of thinner, wiry, slanted top tube. Maybe somebody else remembers.
I sent an email to the engineer requesting additional photos and asking him (I am assuming is a he) how the bike rides. Let's see what comes back

I don't think the seller is joking: The non-drive side photos, the "tire" reflectors, the "get some-exercise" sales pitch, and the desecrated frame all speak of an enterprising Drew-some individual who is not one to kid around.

It also occurs to me that the fact that this guy is still alive and the bikes hasn't been reduced to a twisted hunk of steel is a testament to how bad ass Centurion bikes are.

That's because he did not remove the spoke protector. He did remove the kickstand and clothes guard also. If he removed the spoke protector, well, who knows what could have happened... yeah...
