Aloha guys (and gals) - I'm wondering if I can tap those who frequent this thread to help me find a complete vintage lightweight roadie for a friend in the LA area.
Location: Ventura or Los Angeles County
Size req: ~52cm to ~56cm (rider is 5'8)
Price: $150 or less
Era: Mid 80's or newer (does not have to be C&V)
Locating this for a friend who is new to cycling, but mechanically inclined.

Friend is located near Simi Valley, but has no problem driving into the SFV or greater LA area for a deal.
Looking for a mid-level (or better) road bike, 80's or newer. Indexing preferred.
Every now and then someone goes on a streak and posts half a dozen ads in LA for great deals.
Hoping to inspire similar sharing of deals in this thread.

1987 Schwinn Tempo for $75 - Raleigh, NC
I'm still to new to post links or photos, but in the Raleigh, NC area there is a 23" 1987 Schwinn Tempo for $75.
Be sure to search for Tempo since the seller spelled it "Scwhinn" by accident.
Looks like it was stored outside for awhile because of hood discoloration and the paint looks like it is rough or it has a lot of mismatched touchups.
Shimano 105 but the wheels have been replaced at some point with Nashbar hubs and rims. Still look to be 6 speed freewheel hubs.
But $75 sounds good for a 105 Tenax beater. 22 pounds according to the 1987 catalog.

1987 Schwinn Tempo - $75 (Morrisville)
"1987 Schwinn Tempo, 23" - good for 5'9-6'2 or so I would say depending on inseam. New chain, bar wrap cable / housing. Bike has been disassembled and re-greased. Frame has been touched up ( lots of knicks and a little bit of rust I sanded down and covered up) - and while looks ok from a distance - the touch up does not look good closer up. Unfortunately I did not get new brake hoods, and white was a poor choice of bar tape with the current discolored hoods.
Just noticed there was some drag when pulling rear brake, will try to fix that up if possible.
I planned on riding this - but it is a bit small (I'm 6'2") - and honestly I just can't get used to downtube shifters, or the 12 speed range. But it rides very nice.
Schwinn catalogs, 1981 - 1990 (330 of 456)
Shimano 105 parts- wheels are nashbar hubs and rims - seem prety nice actually.
Nice avocet racing saddle - one mark on it ( in picture) - can be touched up I am sure.

Thanks to Scott.Whitaker and his friend who facilitated this sale I now have the Torpado. I installed a new wheelset I had waiting for such a fixed gear project. New tires and tubes, bottle holder, Brooks seat, Campy Veloce front brake and new bar tape finished it out. Rode it about 50 miles so far. Some pics are attached. Again thanks to the good and very generous people on this forum a bike frame was revived and lives on again as a complete bike! Ken

Frameset is in great shape.
Couple minor scratches here and there. No dents.
Shifter bosses were for Shimano b type shifters but have been modified to fit cable stops. Will not work with down tube shifters.
Cable stops included.
Sale also includes frame fork headset front brake cable stop. Original rear rack and seat post.
Two sets of water bottle bosses. Both are in the down tube (one set on bottom)
Tange mangalloy 2001 tubing. Frame tubing is double butted.
