My bank (actually a credit union) sucks. In the last 2 months in multiple visits, I've had to deal with them: taking me off my family's accounts without any notice or explanation (while still accepting my direct deposit paychecks, sending me statements via e-mail, and letting me do online bill pay), canceling my ATM card (again without notice or explanation), and changing the social security number associated with my account. Not sure whether it's incompetence or or a setup for fraud.

After spending another 45 minutes today circling through their drive through (office closed due to Covid-19) trying to fix it (at one point they shouted the last 4 digits of the social security number they thought was mine through the speakers where anyone could hear), I think they've got this latest round of their screw ups fixed (I thought I fixed the whole taking me off the accounts 2 months back when I first discovered it).

I've contacted them requesting that they explain (in writing) what they did to allow this multiple screwups, what they're doing to fix it, what steps they're taking to prevent it from happening again, and what steps they're taking to protect my account from fraud because they can't even keep track of my social security number (and therefore who should be able to access the account).

I think it might be time to find a new bank, but they hold the loan for our car and I have all my bills set up to be paid through their online service. I dread changing all that.

I was out riding last night and got a slice in the tire (threads got cut so tire is toast - it's a GP 4000 of some variety, so it was old enough that it needed replacing anyway). As I was sitting on the side of the road booting the tire, at least 4 people (none of them appearing to be cyclists) stopped to ask if I needed help. Not a win for social distancing, but it made me feel good that we're all still willing to help each other out.

Perhaps they planned to assist from a distance.

Throw you a new tube maybe?

One guy offered me his pump and then spent some time telling me that I should feel the inside of my tire to make sure there wasn't a nail or something there (I showed him the slice and cut threads and my boot to say I've got this), another offered me a ride home, another offered me his phone, and one more just gave me a generic, "hey, you need help man?" from his car as he stopped by. Honestly, I got more respect and room on the road last night that I've had in years. It was nice.

I didn't ride at all last year due to what I thought was a sprained knee (or dislocated fibula) that refused to heal (turned out to be a 6" tumor that ate the top half of my fibula, but was not malignant and we think is all gone), and this year I've only done zwift or rides with my son's bike attached and/or escorting my 9 year old daughter on her mountain bike. My first solo ride outside in a year and a half, and I was loving it up until the flat. Based on my time available and my speed on Zwift, I'd picked a route I hadn't ridden in a few years making sure to put in a buffer for wind. Totally forgot to take into account 2 things I don't have to worry about in Zwift: intersections and coasting. I was going to be home late before the flat, but at least I had an excuse so my wife wasn't upset (we're both going a little stir crazy with the kids). I do like how predictable Zwift rides can be, but I hadn't realized how much I missed the sun and wind even on what was just a brisk JRA ride.

Took my ancestry DNA results and pushed em into a service to pull out medical information. This can't be right.

I'm a European mutt. 42% English, 22% Swedish, 19% Irish (according to Ancestry). When traced it would seem most of my lineage does go back to Czechoslovakia (On my father's side).

I just find it kinda funny because I have to work hard (over time) to break 1000 Watts. And I never ran a sub 12 100m. I'm more of a 1 minute power guys if I can't take a race long.

I'm supposedly 100% Welsh but somehow most Welsh have darker hair (think Christian Bale, Geraint Thomas) and I have blonde hair green eyes. So I'm pretty sure the part of Wales I'm from is the one that was invaded by Vikings every other week. Outside of Scandinavia and Ireland, I'm pretty sure we're all very mixed.

my parents are from northern Portugal and likely my ancestors were for millennia as well, my dna profile came back 81% Spanish/portuguese over the years various groups (Celt, Roman, Germanic) made their way I’m so overall my profile is pretty consistent with the historical settlement of the region. I kind of chuckle to myself when someone says they’re 100% Some nationality (usually as trying to signal cultural purity or something) just because even insulated regions like northern Portugal were at some point melting pots of genetic blending

My mom's family tree stops 2 generations away from me (we don't know who my grandma's parents are). So there was quite a bit of surprise for me. My mom and i were both raised thinking we had a lot of native american. came back with none lol.

Here's my total profile, and it's correct on identifying the region where my folks come from, this is what I imagine genetic isolation looks like lol Although I did hit the genetic jackpot (relatively speaking) because my parents and older sibling are 5'1-5'3" or something and I'm 5'10", not sure where my height came from!

I'm not willing to do a DNA test and have that floating around out there (tinfoil hat).

But, I've seriously considered picking up a $230 combo blood tester that also does lactic. Not sure I could convince the wife to take samples though during a test. Lol!!!!! "You want me to do WHAT while you ride?"

Is the ear the only way?

I guess for now ramp/ftp tests and looking for that 'inflection' point in the HR is going to be the best bet.

Local P/1/2 racer went out on their B-day and bagged pretty much half the local 1min and less KOM's all at once. Womp womp.

I can maybe make 3 digs like that per ride. Dude did like over 10x that many. Lol.

It'll take the TT bike to get any of them back. One at a time, lol.

Hate that. There are three significant climbs within 5 miles of my place, and one Cali pro came home for a "visit" and clapped all three in one ride. I've been trying to pick them off, but getting all three in one damn day is just bananas. Like, 425W for 10 mins x3 with rolling terrain between each climb. Like, even if I snag one of them back it's a hollow victory unless I can do all three at once.

Dude isn't a pro, that I know of. Is a Cat 1 though I'm pretty sure. It's just a different world for hobbyist clubbie cyclists doing the hammer ride or racing 4/5 and maybe 3 versus a Cat 1. These weren't necessarily all the most popular P/1/2/3 level segments either. We had a clydesdale clubbie in the group lose a couple. I told him I'd lead him out for a couple if he wants.

I could do one of those efforts about the same, once. Once in a ride. He did it over a dozen times. Just shows how unreal the fitness is.

Hey, Strava is a wild west of fun though. So, more power to him (literally in a way). There's no rule saying I can't come back and pick a windy day and suit up in the skinsuit and TT bike and give it 600w for 45 seconds. One KOM at a time.

If it was me though, I probably would have picked the longer/harder segments that are out of reach of the Joes.

Knowing that guy, he was probably just out for a hard ride, and not trying to nab 25 or so KOMs.

Just wait until one of the big american races comes through. Our KOM attempts are useless against the Tour of Utah folks.

Agreed. For us it's the Cascade Classic (def not as big as the Tour of Utah). I scouted some KOM's in Bend for when I visit the in-laws and the main routes are held by Francisco Mancebo, Ian Boswell, Ben Jacques-Mayne, or a whole slew of pseudonyms that different pros use; and the top 40 placings were all ridden on the same day

Tour of California did not break the top 100 on Palomar. That day they were saving it or Palm Springs.

Sometimes folks who don't race just don't know. I cruise Slowtwitch a lot for good info.

Folks over there are convinced that real world racing is full of 100kg bike racers blasting out 350w for over 20min and able to win a bunch of stuff. Just like Zwift.

Zwift B racing is full of 100kg dudes blasting watts. Probably on some fluid trainer with a horribly wrong curve. I went in Zwift power and counted one B race with about 1/3 of riders nearly 100kg's.

They're convinced this is how it would go down in the real world also. Nope.

Zwift is a game that helps with training. Not reality.

The physics engine in Zwift is an interesting thing. I've had to "coach" one of my friends through the Zwift racing world, even though I only have one event under my belt. He's a smaller dude and got DQ'd for having too much power in a B event, but he's never won a race against the huge guys dumping watts. At the end of the race, his average W/kg is huge compared to the guys that won and it bothers him that he's getting beaten by "weaker" "fat" riders. Now that he's getting DQ'd in the B's, he has to race in the A's where he'll get mauled.

I do think Zwift Power's category guidelines are a bit skewed. Dudes that can't crack top ten in cat 3 races or top 20 in Strava leaderboards are winning Zwift B races. Then there are guys like my friend that are routinely top 10 on Strava, and can't podium a Zwift B race to save his life, but are getting DQ'd for having too much power.
