Ski toured today. 1 lap by myself for fitness. Awful skiing down. 54 minutes up. Changed skis, caught up to my friends and then skied 1 lap with them. That lap took almost 2.5 hours to get to the top. The skiing down was much better. harvested some of that wonderful spring corn!

Feeling functional and healthy. Got in a ride yesterday and today, and an easy ride earlier in the week. Feels productive, I am obviously sluggish but it doesn't feel like I've lost any underlying fitness. Assuming I am able to ride consistently I'll be back to normal in a month.

Hmm. According to Garmin, mine's 67, but I'm heavier than Cypress and my FTP (if I'm remembering previous posts right) is at least 20 or 30 watts lower. Plenty of headroom? I'm 44.

12 hours last week. I've left my June peak in for the hell of it and then I'll wind it back up for races in Sep/Oct (or just another peak for the hell of it).

Be careful about pushing too hard too quickly, especially since there is no racing to be concerned about. 7 years ago I was wiped out with a bad flu, but racing season had just started, I panicked, immediately went back into a lengthy base type block to regain lost fitness, and put myself into overtraining syndrome/burnout.

Close to 14 hours last week. I think I fixed my groin issue and its one of the rare times in the last few years its felt normal.

I know I say that every other month, but some time years ago 1 thing went out of place and 5 other things changed to compensate, one by one they're (hopefully) all getting sorted. I'd like to think at the end of this I magically have a 50w power jump, one can hope!

Well, I got though 5 weeks of 2 VO2-type workouts per week, started week 1 with 18x1min @ 120% and each week added 30sec to interval lengths (keeping total interval time to about 18min) and finally did 3min @ 120% this week. I did a-ok on the Tuesday set but cracked on Thursday. So I consider it to be a successful block. Yesterday I did 4x20 @ 90% (based on 285w, I had been doing most training based on 275 since my vacation in late Feb). Happy to say my HR/RPE seems to align well with the effort based on 285w and I was super steady over the 4 intervals. We'll see how I am after an easier endurance week

Had a friend do a ride Saturday morning then text me that he "beat me" up a 4.5-min climb. That climb was already on my route for the day, so I took a dig at it about 70 miles into my ride. Ended up putting over half a minute into him with a rolling ~4-min effort at 389W.

Endurance has always been my weak point, so it's nice to see improvement in late-ride power.

took the day off, did a big ride today.

125 miles - up to half moon bay, down highway 1 to santa cruz, then up highway 9 back home.

needed a break from work (which has been super busy lately), and there’s too much traffic on the weekends now that everyone can basically only do outdoors stuff.

super nice day and low traffic, it was perfect!

last week was a rest week, back to it. switching to base-ish mode given how far away racing is.

With nothing better to do i am ramping up volume on the bike. Worked out great until last weekend when i noticed my hamstring is flaring up, looks like i did too much too fast and haven't been doing any prehab on it in a while.

Have to back it off a bit and work on mobility and strengthening of the hip muscles now, otherwise it's just going to get worse. Not great as it looked like i was finding some semblance of form back.

So jealous. When I lived in the Bay Area, HMB to SC and back was my traditional long Sunday ride. Tailwind and ocean view on the way down. Headwind and ocean view on the way back. I miss that ride a ton.

Yeah. I just got off the phone with my doctor, and she said it sounds like I could've had covid. However there are no tests available, so I was told to call back in a month to see if there are any antibody tests available. I will be ramping it up nice and slow to be safe.

Curious to see how it goes for you. 10 weeks since I got sick I'm still missing 25 watts. Starting to think that no matter what happens with races this year I might be a hiker for the summer.

That has to be so frustrating man, I hope it comes back for you! I went for a little rip a couple of days ago and my perception is that I'm mostly normal, aside from some lingering chest tightness and the expected 3 weeks of no riding feeling. I do feel perpetually exhausted though, like I could sleep 12hrs a night.

It was frustrating when I was chasing the numbers of where I should be.and cracking on everything I tried to do. A bit less so once I recalibrated. Not much I can really do about it, and all things considered I could be dead. Shrug. But it's like I'm missing a valve (or some other car metaphor I don't understand). I just can't put out the numbers I did in any zone. I've checked the slope on my SRM like 1/2 dozen times because I keep convincing myself my PM is off! But hey, if I can't find the watts I'm hardly going to be winning masters hill climbs this year, and then long drives and hotels become ponderously difficult to justify.

Jealous of the big ride mattm! I'm planning on 6 hr myself Saturday, but it won't be quite that much. I've got plenty of PTO which I was supposed to be using for my honeymoon in 1 month (obv. postponed).... Maybe I should use some and relax.

I rode the TT bike for 90 min this morning, managed ~40 min of SST in position. Could've been more, but some of the roads are crappy out here and I'm just not comfortable in position going that fast and risking hitting a pothole or something. Man, I miss Fiesta Island!

On a related note, I pulled the trigger on a smart trainer yesterday, Cyclops/Saris Hammer H3. LBS gave me 15% off MSRP which is nice. I had planned on purchasing one later in the year as my fiancee and I started doing family planning, but we were both thinking that now's the time...

Run at lunch in some new shoes (Nike Pegasus 36) and then our tuesday groupride on zwift. Was a bit spicier than normal with something like 75 people showing up. Zwift is so hot right now.

Two hour endurance ride from PB to Swamis and back. I included 1’, 2x2’ and a 3/2 over under that used the Torrey Pines climb. I miss Fiesta and the track as well. Currently, Camp Pendleton has the best route for time trial work since there is light traffic, good roads with flat to rolling terrain. A government ID is required to get on the base bike route that is available at the visitor center. It is easy to get.

Had an unfortunate 'flip day'; that's when you have a big ride schedule so you eat a ton and you don't do the ride, so you're just stuck with a massive calorie surplus.

I did an Aussie group ride that I normally do, and the regulars were saying a lot of 'heavy hitters' were there. Probably guys like Liam 'Big Koala' Jones, Adam 'That's not a syringe, this is a syringe' Peters and others. I'm just guessing on the names, but I'm pretty sure based on pop culture that's pretty accurate.

I might jump on for a race tonight, anyone game? Or I may just stick to my Trainerroad workout....

What are your airflow setups for your trainers? Box fan is not cutting it.

Zwift race didn't go poorly. A Zpower guy on a tt bike hit the front right at the start and I couldn't hold the front group as it strung out. So i settled into the second group. Annual power PR's across the chart.

Air mover fan in front, box fan on the side. i used just a big box fan in front for a long time and it was sufficient. If it's cool outside I open the window which helps a ton too.
