After last night's rain the clouds were rapidly scooting south and away as I began my ride on one of my favorite local loops.
As the road headed up and inland the skies turned bright blue.
The wild Turkeys dried their feathers in the morning sun and paid little attention to me.
I am often taken by the simple shapes of the hills meeting the sky.
I was in a metaphorical mood this morning. The bicycle is placed off to one side, an important component of the photo and of the ride, but more than that, it's a way to explore and enjoy the world.

I finally made it up to the end of the paved road, on the little hill we live near. And I didn't see even one hummingbird...although I did see one deer.

A little colder today but still warmer than normal with almost no snow just traces in places where there is normally a couple feet or more. Took the Raliegh MT-200 for a short ride on the quary trails just out side Fairplay.

Headed out under pink London skies on the pink bike.....
....in search of new artworks in Penge, just down the hill from Crystal Palace. Central London is flat but has hills north and south. From a transmitter on a hill in Alexandra Palace in north London in 1936, the BBC started broadcasting the worlds first scheduled television programmes. and 20 years later that transmitter was succeeded by the one in Crystal Palace, on a hill 13 miles / 20km south across the city, and in November of that year, 1956, it started broadcasting colour TV for the first time.
This residential part of London is not on the tourist trail, but in recent years has seen regular new artworks appear, with permission, by artists from all over the world. So 65 years after colour was first beamed into our homes, colour is now taking hold on the outside of homes too. Here's a new Dan Kitchener piece who has a fascination with Japan.
This is by Abraham O, who is from El Salvador, bringing a flavour of central America to wintery south London. This piece features a dancer in traditional attire for the dance of Moors and Christians (la danza de Moros y Cristianos)
With the spread of the new Omicron virus here in the UK, this week saw the re-introduction of wearing masks in shops and on public transport, so this retake on Forest Gump for 2021, complete with mask and hand sanitiser is a reminder of the world we now live in.
Some shutters on a cafe host a new character I'm pretending is impressed with my bike
You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one.....

I finally tightened up the lock ring of the fixed cog on the '51 New Hudson, so I went out for a 36 mile ride this afternoon to enjoy the flipped hub... I love riding fixed but it's been a couple of years and it was a nice workout and a pleasant reminder of the satisfying feeling of really being in control!

I went out for a nice ~15-mile shakedown ride on the newly completed Colnago. Great first impressions. Looking forward to spending more time on this one. I'll try to post a build thread tomorrow.

After a couple of colder days back to warmer weather mid 40's this afternoon. Still not much snow cover on the back roads and trail usually at least a couple of feet in places by this time in December. Road the back road a to Alma and took the path back.
Close to 11,000 ft in this spot and no snow.

I was 54 miles away from a mileage goal and the snow is parked 40 miles away. Sun and temps in the mid-40s got me out the door. Did 60 miles up to Lake Bluff.
The snow coverage map shows the snow stopping exactly at the ILL/WISC border. Must have a good snow fence up there…
Strong southwest wind had me bundled up. Only got chilly as the sun was setting.
Went down to Sunrise Beach. They put in a bunch of riprap to combat erosion. Bad storm in 2020 destroyed the parking lot and damaged buildings.
The climb out from the beach is probably the steepest of all the ravines on the North Shore. Made it up in 39x23, but my knee was talking to me afterwards.
Rolled over 3000 miles for the season on the last stretch of Sheridan Road. It’s all gravy from this point on.
