Had a customer complain once that his wheel seemed a little wobbly, there was only about a dozen spokes still holding it together and it started with 32 of them. The thing kind of flopped around and he rode it to the shop hoping we could fix it on the spot to ride home. We did sell him a basic wheel and had him out the door so I guess it worked for him.

i wish i had pics, but the years ago i knew this one old local fellow i didn't even have a cell phone. anyway, he had over a hundred bikes in shambles around his property the very few he managd to cobble together looked scary to ride. i remember one time he had a bike together with one 27 inch wheel and one 26 inch wheel. he had one barely functional brake set to stop on THE TIRE of the 26 inch wheel. i don't even think the bike was able to shift though there were derailleurs on it. he had a rack and basket wired on with bailing wire and electric wire tied in knots so he could bring home goods from the nearby gas station. he was a character. and, ironically (you'd have to know him to understand this statement), he'd been very scholarly at one time and phenomal artist. tim west was his name. passed years ago from heart failure. maybe google still has the article with pics a local journalist did on him before he died. off to look for it....

well, i'll post the google search if anyone is curious to explore. it's all mostly about him and his art and very little about his bicycling which he was also quite known for. if you do explore, you'll notice one or more picture of him shirtless in shorts with a big piece of log stuck down the front of his britches. yes....a piece of log. he had a hernia and that's how he kept in place. talk about how this has not fallen apart...lol. i think his bicycling kept him alive as long as he was...

Alas, someone stole it.
I couldn't really ride or walk very well after an accident several years ago, but still needed mobility around my neighborhood. Inspired by a picture I'd seen ~15yrs ago of a Toronto bike messenger, I converted an early '80s Peugeot bmx into a fixed gear errand bike, with front basket. The rear cog was rota-fixed as tight as I could get the 20" wheel to turn, lubed with locktite. After trying (and bending) a few alloy flat mtb handlebars as a 22.2mm seatpost and sissybar setups, I settled on a thickwalled Titec titanium handlebar, inserted as the seatpost. The sweep also gave me a bit more layback to it and it would happily flex inches as I puttered around a 6 block radius. I had a postoffice, library, and Mexican restaurant all within range.
Damn crackhead stole it out of my backyard a few years ago. I searched a couple camps nearby, but have never seen it again.

I think that about cars I see all the time and wonder why they hassled me so much about my faulty brake light at the last safety inspection. Clearly that rolling disaster area didn’t happen in the last few months.

I have not seen that before. They easily could have put a lower-sitting seat on it and then not have needed to do whatever they did.

This was a Schwinn Voyager 11.8.
Notice the 5 speed freewheel on a flip flop hub. The wheels is WAAAAAAAY out of dish and the axle nut on the drive side is barely threaded on to the axle.
There is also a mountain bike 3x crankset, making it a 3x5 drivetrain, when it originally was a 2x6 drivetrain.

No pics, but working with a non profit that helps fix bikes among other things, guy brings his bike in, no brakes, looks like a fixie.....nope single speed no brakes. so per shop policy we could not release until we had brakes on it. fortunately there is a big pile of take off parts so had brakes on that pretty fast

I was a mechanic a few year ago. A guy came into the shop and asked me to remove his front brake because it looks babyish.
