Nope. Gotta go with ammonia. Wanted to clean my bike one day when I was teenager. My mom had left out a bucket after she was done cleaning. Ammonia was her cleaner of choice. I asked if I could use what was in the bucket. She said yes, perhaps thinking that I had chosen to take to initiative and do some house cleaning. I can report that ammonia will leave the outlines of decals, but the color will be long gone.

I've had good luck with charcoal lighter fluid without damaging the paint or decals.

I'm confused. That description makes it sound like using ammonia is a good way to get rid of decals... Or do you mean the paint color goes as well?

The decals stay. The brighter colors in them fade away. Please don’t try this at home.

Using ammonia for anything related to bicycles sounds no good to me, but the way your worded that made me sit back and wonder for a moment... Ha!

It does look better. Thank you for the ideas. I soaked it in liquid handsoap, then attacked with a fingernail. Sill have to work on the other side, but fortunately nothing on the seattube decal.
