Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

...I had this beater Raleigh Sports that I rode from UMd down into downtown to sell blood once a week, straight down Rhode Island Avenue. I wonder what ever happened to that bike ? Proteus was just getting going in College park, but the majority bike was Schwinn/Raleigh/Peugeot, take your pick. None of them were particularly light or responsive, but the UO-8 was the most bang for the buck, so there were a lot of them.

I map my ride to head into the wind going out and have it on my tail coming back. Inly way I can stand it. Oh, and since we are flatlanders, i pretend it's my hill.

Thank goodness! I was starting to worry.

Gonna take lots of pics for the ride report??

Sounds good to me. I'm looking at about 45ish with 15mph winds for my Saturday ride. At least it wont be raining.

So far, a nice card and a chocolate cake (both from work). I left home at 7 today so maybe there will be some presents when I get back. Not likely, though.

Not likely. This is not a race, but it is a timed event, the first of a series of 3 rides over the next 6 weeks. I'm trying for my best possible placement for the series, hopefully I'll break into the women's top 10. So if I'm going to have decent weather tomorrow, I'll try to make time, the other two rides might wind up wicked hot and slow me down.

So all you're going to get in the report most likely is words. Sorry.

It's really steep, it gets up to 17% or something, and that's after two other killer hills of similar caliber. Fun going down though.

So on the notable alumni list for my university is an Islamic extremist. I was interested, so I looked him up. His wiki page says death by: hellfire missile.
