Sorry for starting multiple threads lately, but I'm going to buy a nice gravel bike soon and keep seeing new stuff.

I notice the 2018 Tamland 1 and 2 don't have a visible seatpost clamp bolt like the '17's, which had the actual clamp brazed to the tube. Anyone know what's up with that? I don't think that HED post has an internal quill type clamp but who knows. And the specs for the Tamland 2 says it comes with a travel bag. Anyone seen that? It actually interests me very much because I would be traveling, and my travel case is 30 years old.

Yeah, I was looking at the new tamland bikes recently and saw this oddity and also found it wonky that HED Eroica basically doesnt exist. That model of cockpit components isnt on HED's website and Google just brings up raleigh/Dback bikes.

the tamland 1 is really cool. The 2 may be great, but I dismiss 1x bikes which is why i like the 1.
but they are 631 frames and you mention wanting carbon in another thread...

Nice looking bike, really like the color. And the 1x looks pretty good- Rival and praxis. Was always tempted to get one. If I didn't already have a 1x SRAM gravel I would grab one of these.

dback/Raleigh websites offer such inconsistent info. It often seems like 85% of the info that an informed buyer needs.

A few other posters and me talked about DB stats on another forum.I think it was the reach and wheel base for the Haanjo looked wrong on most sizes. Performancebike sells DB now and has different better numbers that look right.

The prices on the Tamland went way up from last year.I'll have to look again,but I did not see any major changes.
But the low price was a major reason for me buying one.If like the previous years of the Tamlnd should come down more in price.Oh and it is a very nice ride.

I still don't see a replaceable rear dérailleur hanger on the Tamland.

I don't know if I've ever seen a steel frame with a replaceable hanger. It's steel, you can bend it back.

It would be difficult to find a current gravel bike without a replaceable hanger, other than the Tamland.

I'd consider a non-replaceable hanger a pretty minute detail and definitely not something to sway a decision.

The Jamis you posted does not have a replaceable hanger, and it looks like the other two are set up so you can convert to single speed. There is no other reason for a steel frame to have a replaceable aluminum hanger, nor would I want one. Why would anyone? You can bend steel back, aluminum bolt-on hangers can snap off.

And it appears there are issues with the Vaya's hanger breaking.

I'm willing to bet 50 million dollars you'll find 1000x more steel bikes without replaceable hangers than not. Replaceable hangers aren't some "modern" thing. They were invented when aluminum bikes started coming out because you can't restraighten a bent alu hanger, or at least it's not recommended.

You are right, I did not catch that when I was comparing bikes a couple of years ago.

I would agree with you as steel bikes have been around a long time. I did specify current, as in new, in my response. In any case, you win as you found another steel gravel bikes without the replaceable hanger.

I am not saying the Tamland is a bad bike, but not having a replaceable hanger is a con, at least in my opinion.

I wouldn't worry about a steel frame not having a replaceable hanger either. That said, my Space Horse Disc has a replaceable hanger, and it gives me a little piece of mind knowing I can just replace it instead of trying to bend part of my frame back in place.

The ability to replace the hanger should something bad happen. I have never broken a hanger, but it is nice knowing there are options should it happen.

In regards to Vaya's hangers breaking, I have heard that a lot of manufacture hangers are weaker than the Wheels Manufacturing counterpart. I have heard this from mountain bikers mainly.

You have a better chance of being struck by lightening than snapping a steel hanger. They'll literally bend 90 degrees without snapping off, I've seen it. If you hit when enough force to snap those off then you probably have bigger damage issues than that. If you have to align it just clamp a crescent wrench on it. It doesn't weaken it, it's steel.
