Trek FX 7.1 or 7.2 Max Tire Width?

Considering purchasing a Trek FX 7.1 or 7.2 (size 20"). What is the max width tire that this model of bike can handle?

Not positive on absolute max, but know folks have mounted 700x40's on them. They might take some 42's depending on the tire, not sure.

Just measured from my 2016 frame (Allant 7.2, same as FX 7.2). The smallest opening is the fork, 56 mm wide. The inside measurements of the rear triangle are slightly wider.

I have the stock 700x35s on it, but I'm sure 45 would fit in the frame. The rims might be another story, they're 22 mm wide on the outside in mine.

I finally put some 40mm Kenda Kwicks on my 25" 2009 FX2 to smooth out the ride. The chain stays are plenty wide, but I have to mount the tire partially deflated since it bumps into the fender mount behind the kickstand before I can slip the axle into the dropout. Once the wheel is mounted, the fully inflated tire has plenty of room.

yeah that chainstay bridge spot is pesky. are you using a flat headed screw at that mount or is it one of those tall headed things? I try to use the flattest screw possible w/o a washer so it doesn't stick out as much

rumrunn6 – So far, I haven't mounted any fenders, so it's just the mount that gets in the way. That would be a good place to install an old-school tire saver, now that I think of it.

I'm late to this discussion but in case anyone still has the question, I asked at the trek site for tire range size for FX 7.2.
Their reply: 700 x 28C to 700 x 38C.

(I am getting a flat a day now & need replacements).

tires may not measure the same, meaning a 38mm tire may measure larger or smaller than 38mm. also tire width changes w/ tire pressure. they are probably giving you a very safe range, when in fact you might be able to fit a wider tire if you want to.

my Trek 7.0 Alpfa currently rides with 40mm WTB Nano tires (at I think around 60-70psi)

different bike, I know. the rest of my family has FX 7.1 or 7.2 & I think they all have 32mm tires, but might be able to fit 35mm tires
