They use the 44mm head tube size across their lineup to accommodate tapered steerers. It makes a lot more sense on the MTB's, but I guess this bike could take one of the carbon gravel bike forks if you wanted.

Did they transition to 1 1/2" (tandem standard) headtubes in their newer models instead of 1 1/4"? My CrossCheck doesn't strike me as strange looking

The 44mm head tubes can take a tapered steerer but need a protruding headset cup. Then they look pretty flush with a matching fork. But then, the same head tube with a zero stack cup and a straight steerer looks kind of funny, as above.

haha, 2 YEARS.....finally bought the PR a couple of weeks ago... will try to write a review at some point, once I've ridden it with some weight on the front (teleworking has killed my commute so I've just been riding it for fun (ie unloaded) so far

You are lucky to find a pack rat! This year has been bonkers and it's discontinued.
Surly has been updating their touring lineup, also killing off the ECR, Troll, non-disc Trucker, and Pugsley (again). The disc Trucker is basically all-new and they are teasing a drop bar bikepacking/gravel bike.

yeah, I got lucky with a 2018 model (24-pack rack) , I even had a choice between frame sizes, but not color - it seems the green wasn't popular here in japan - not sure why, I really like it, very retro. The shop I bought it from said if I want a different color it could be months....I'd been looking at a Kona Rove as well but same story, waiting time in months....

I posted a quick review here and also on the surly site - absolutely loving this bike, such a shame it's been discontinued, i guess it wasn't selling, it IS somewhat overpriced for the spec, but even at this price I'm glad I went for it, 3 months and a lot of miles (1,000k i think, tho somehow my computer fell off around 600 so I don't know for sure
will get a new one soon...)

I went through looking at them a couple of weeks ago, it seems that they have cancelled a lot of their models. In my case, the Troll. You may need to check and see if the bike you are looking for is still in production.

A year ago they teased a new bike which looked gravel-ey and would make a good commuter, but who knows what's become of it given the way this year has gone.

CC is a good all rounder bike for everything but not not that great at Any, I would like a faster bike for my commuting and LHT for touring, Id use CC with rack and panniers only for grocery shopping. I have had both CC and LHT, Dont regert selling CC but should have kept the LHT

I haven't ridden the CC but on paper it looks an awful lot like the PR is the CC with better front loading....(and 700cc wheels obviously) since the PR rides fine unloaded (to me at least!) I can't see how the CC would be preferable...maybe a little faster with 700cc wheels, but..(tho people like different things, so the CC may suit some people better)

SUPERB SMART SURLY MARKETING. SUBPAR bike frames low quality components still some customers feel lucky even though they didn't get their favorite frame colors, baffles me!!!
The 1st time I rode an Aluminum frame with carbon forks road bike I sold both my Surly CC and LHT the next day.
