1980s Nishiki Cascade MTB
I was looking for a beater / lock-up bike for the winter, and unexpectedly stumbled upon this beauty in great condition. It appears to be a mid-1980s Nishiki Cascade, which according to my research may also have been marketed as a Nishiki Bushwacker (or Bushwhacker) at some point. Frame is welded chromoly.
Parts seem all-original (maybe even the tires and grips), with the exception of the kickstand, rear rack, and perhaps the cages.
I still need a bke for the winter, but I am afraid this one might be too nice for that, especially considering its condition - and if it's worth something to somebody else!

The bike is in excellent condition. I do not think that there are many collectors of vintage Nishiki mountain bikes. You might get $30 to $50 for the (Victor?) pedals. Maybe the tires are appealing, they are My guess would be $400 tops.

The Bushwacker was a Canadian market model while the Cascade was a similar USA market model. This one appears to be 1983-1984. The serial number will tell us the calendar year of manufacture and may help to narrow down the model year.

It's in fabulous shape. The parts such as the shifters have some value. Winters are tough on derailleurs and the frame but not on the shifters. This will make a fine winter bike. Just keep it clean so it doesn't get too corroded in the winter.

The pedals/s are worth big money and not so great I would sell them for $50 or so and buy some new pedals too your taste.

The subject bicycle is a 1984 Nishiki Cascade, frame made by Giant of Taiwan. The headbadge is specific to 1984 Nishiki models made by Giant.
The tubing decal is also common to Giant made frames.

Beautiful bike, bi plane fork, a lot to like. The Suntour XCII pedals bring serious coin, not those. Rigid frame MTBs from that era continue to be under appreciated. $150 here. $400 is Stumpjumper territory.

Would agree yet another example of odd MTB pricing lesser but top end hardframe were the components are worth $200-300 sold right and the whole bike only $150-200 maybe more if you you find a buyer for the wheels. The vintage MTB market is still a bit upside down the parts are often times worth more than the whole bike in some cases 2x or even 3x.

Yep, nice vintage rigid frame MTBs go for reasonable to low prices. Meanwhile, the parts off these bikes can bring quite a bit. Came home with four more on my last buying trip.

Almost missed this but it looks to have rare sought after slight concave dimpled uki rims with large flange hubs which if good could bring another $150-200 to the right buyer for set.

But it is another example of where the value of the parts exceed the whole bike. Its not unusual to see parts on these old MTBs have about 3X the value of the entire bike. Sad, but its where it is. I have a 1983 Univega Ultima, offered it at the low end of what the wheels themselves are worth. No takers.
