I think it's bizarre (and unuser-friendly) that only the Mechanics page is under B for Bicycle Mechanics instead of M for Mechanics. What other kind of mechanics on this forum are there?

I think you meant user-unfriendly.

I'm pretty sure calling it Bicycle Mechanics is search engine friendly. "It's too high up on an alphabetical list" doesn't seem to be much of a drawback.
You want someone who would really have a complaint? Find the fixed gear forums on the list.

Using that same logic, then "bike" or "bicycle" should be removed from the other sub-forums.
To answer your question I'd think that there are auto mechanics, airplane mechanics, heavy equipment mechanics, small engine mechanics and may other types of mechanics that are members here because they ride a bicycle.

Bicycle Mechanics is a fair way of wording it. Kinda keeps it near the general discussion area in hopes to grab the right attention for those in repair need.
.....if things were purposely put in alphabetical order, I'd say the "Fixed Gear Freestyle" section missed that route.
Could rearrange "Singlespeed & Fixed Gear " to read "Fixed & Singlespeed Gearing" for flowing with "Fixed Gear Freestyle" . Just my .02

Honestly, if I was going to try to hide a forum by moving it further into the alphabet, I'd reverse the name of "Advocacy and Safety" to "Safety and Advocacy." That one's a cesspool.
