I once saw a couple of young cats investigating a young raccoon as it slowly walked away.

3 coils of wire, a brand new circular saw blade and a nice set of Craftsman 1/4" sockets. I don't feel bad picking things up from alonside the road, because I have made my share of "donations"---two nice leather hats, a full set of cheap raingear, $40 cashy money. I lost that stuff while I was riding.

I found a tool for cutting thin plastic sheet. The plus was that I didn't even know such a tool existed unitl I looked up the manufacturer's name.

so a few weeks ago I took a short cut through a wooded area on the edge of town on my way to work. It was round 4:45 am and as I whipped around a sharp corner there is a skunk in the headlight, and as soon as it saw me it spun around and lifted its tail. I dove off my bike into the bushes to my right, landed in a roll, and took off running. I snuck back a few minutes later and luckily he hadn't sprayed my bike. I left the way I came and stayed on the roads. Scared the heck out of me, I thought I was screwed.

I was coming to work on our local MUP that runs along the Ohio River. I was focused on a man and woman walking a dog that I was going to pass from behind. Up ahead of them, coming toward me appeared to be a lady walking on her side of the trail. Once I got passed the people with the dog, I had to get back over to the right due to the woman coming toward me. From the outset, she looked big and seemed to have black tights on. As I got closer, I noticed that she had a pink bikini bottom on top of the tights and she had very large breasts. Then, right as I was going by, I see a grey, bushy mustache!!!!! I couldn't believe it. I almost turned around and headed back to get a better look, but thought better of it. So I suppose it was a man dressed like a woman. Why the dude wouldn't shave I don't know. Maybe it was just a long 4th of July celebration gone wrong.

Could just be a woman who had not yet waxed.

Along the Hudson greenway there's a guy who makes some interesting sculptures out of the driftwood that piles up on the shore:

Last fall I kept seeing dozens of dead rats along the greenway between 125th St and 96th St. Didn't know what the hell was going on until I decided to take the greenway home one evening instead of my usual dusk/after-dark surface street route and my bike ran over something squishy accompanied by a *squeak!*

I ended up running over three or four of the fellas. Felt pretty bad about it.

Above the 79th St basin a couple of red-tailed hawks have built a nest and the fledglings seem to be doing quite well. I managed to look up once at just the right moment on my commute and caught one of the parents returning with a snack in its talons. Maybe they've been keeping those rats down a bit further north!

2 dead racoons on the side of the road. One was hit and a week later the second one was hit and they are starting to stink!!!
About 50 or more rode bikers useing the same route I take to work. I joined them for about a half mile and then had to turn to go to work. I was thinking of what other people thought when the saw 50 rode bikers and 1 mountain biker. Lol that was fun. And a giant swer rat I thought at first it was a small lost dog but when I got closer It was very clear it was not a small dog. lol It jumped back done the storm drain as I was investigateing.

Dead arfenhund. It smells bad. Also a dead baby deer that's been hit in the face by a car, blood everywhere for several meters.

I wish the city would clean this stuff up. The department that handles dead animals will no longer be removing them from the streets as of like 10 years ago... the roads are full of trash, broken glass, rusty metal... there's no effort to keep the city clean and I'm sure as hell not doing it. Commuting is actually getting difficult because there's several dead animals within a few miles, flies everywhere, and I'm choking on the smell. Come down the hill, go right, over the next hill, and there's a dead raccoon, dead dog a quarter mile later, dead deer a mile and a half later, dead mice and birds everywhere, dead geese in the street....

I pay taxes, why you no maintain roads and clean streets?

There are those who would seek to privatize everything and eliminate the "extravagance" of road maintenance.

Yet another bungee cord.
I think a person could almost make a living selling all the used bungee cords dropped along the side of the road.

yup, i saw two bungees on my ride yesterday. I think we can officially say that bungees no longer fall under the "strange things found" tag.

Indeed. I wish I had a dollar for every bungee I see. I normally ignore them but a while back I found a high-vis orange one with nylon hooks and the tag still on it. That one is on the rack!

I passed a momma turkey with about 7 babies this morning. I scolded them gently to urge them to get away from the road but I don't know if it worked. Those babies sure were cute.

A load of laundry. Not sure if it was clean or dirty, but someone had either tossed it out of a car window or fallen off the back of a truck. Shirts, shorts, didn't notice any undies. Lots of socks. The socks were getting scattered by traffic so the first was about 50 yards in front of the main pile of clothes, the last was about 75 yards past the pile. Kinda curious if they will still be there on the ride home.

We found a pair of baby kittens (yes, redundant I know, but they were oh so small) a couple of weeks ago. Loaded them up and took them to the SPCA. They had obviously been dumped there.
