Our house is 500 feet from Matadero Creek. Yes, it used to be scary when it was raining hard. But the city did a flood control upgrade with big retaining walls, and now the water never gets up very high. The price we paid was the loss of all the neighborhood toads, as they were no longer able to climb out of the creek. We used to get an invasion of tiny toads every year.

Yes, I worked at a building that faced the Moffett runway. Many years ago, blimps patrolled the waters off the coast, looking for enemy ships. Later, they launched P3 planes to search for Soviet submarines. All day and night. They stopped that program, thankfully. NASA Ames is there, too. We'd occasionally see a U2 or an SR-71 take off or land.

The Ames wind tunnel is something to see. It's the biggest in the world:

I was there in the late 1990s. Shame about the toads. I like toads.

No love for the P3s? I was fascinated with them. It was like watching a flying city bus. except with that crazy long tail attachment with the sensors.

good for you if you like being outside. I prefer being inside when it's cold and wet, and I'm in great shape. And the bike handling thing is so overrated, I say that as a CX racer who has bike handling skills

The constant drone of the P3 engines was not pleasant. We were close enough to the air station that we heard them all the time.

They did fly blimps out of Moffett during WWII and before. There are 3 huge blimp hangers there. The Navy left several years ago, and it is now call a Federal air field.

Yes .... but where I live, there is no skiing .... but yes. Awesome sport.

I owe full congratulations to Mr. Rydabent for a new and positive post. After all the ribbing I have given him, it is only fair that I publicly applaud his achievements (no sarcasm intended.)

People who live in Oz (Australia) or Oz (the magical land of yellow-bricked roads, like me) have different takes on things. This is prime riding weather .... so I am thrilled to be laid up with a lung infection, again.

For all the cold-state posters .... I did that for decades, and even if you like winter sports .... I don't think anyone really likes Winter, per se, and I know the anticipation of that first day when the roads are safe for riding.

And, Mr. Rydabent ... i still don't own a tadpole (or a toad, ....) because traffic is getting worse out where I live. Maybe someday I will move to a place with as many miles of flat MUP as you have, but without winter. Guarantee the first thing I buy (after a new home) is a new tadpole .....

I did a spin-cycle thing for a while at the local gym, and actually liked it until they changed the music to all trash techno (not saying all techno is trash, but there is that genre ....) I have tried setting up my trainer with my laptop in the garage but it just wasn't the same. However I have seen some awesome indoor training set-ups .... big screen, TdF tape or one of those Get Zwifty programs ..... I tried on at the gym and I can attest that seeing the ghost of your best ride out ahead of you is motivating and takes away the fact that you aren't actually going anywhere.

Pedal on, folks, indoors or out. Even on tricycles.

Nobody cares what you think about indoor trainers. Not me, not the pros who use them, literally nobody at all.

Why not start a thread about the joys of riding in the snow so I can pop in just to say that I think it sucks?

Seriously, that might have been the lamest attempt at a simple insult I’ve ever read on the internet. I expected more from you. Whattya got next up your sleeve…”I’m rubber and you’re glue…?”

You actually took that bait? Really?

On to better things, and rapidly, I hope.

'Tis all in good fun .... one hopes.

Until someone loses an eye.
