Winter 2023 isn't dead yet

Well looks like Winter has decided to stay a bit longer as Spring is only six days away. I called off work today and will be spending time doing my Winter shovel workout routine. Once this storm is over I sure hope the groomers get out before the weekend arrives and I can continue the Winter trail riding fun just a little longer.

It sure isn't gone yet, we have about 3-5" of powder and it is still coming down. Went out for a couple of short spins this afternoon, I've spent a lot of days riding the white this year

we got that same storm out here in Route 38, except it was all rain (2.5" worth). Any snow has already melted. 50s and 60s in the forecast.

Also I saw crocuses poking through on the way for groceries

In southern Ontario, it snows every April. And people who have been living here for years are still surprised when it happens.

It hasn't snowed much here since Christmas but we still have tons of snow because that's the way winter works on the prairie. Its been staying well below freezing but at least its been nice and sunny. The inactive rail line / dog walking trail was packed hard enough I could tackle it on the mountain bike. They are supposed to be reactivating that line eventually but it shouldn't see much traffic.

Okay, I tempted fate for Minnesota and replaced my front studded tire with the summer Gatorskin. The rear Gatorskin has been on a couple of weeks, after having to put the studded tire back on for a week after having gotten a bit too excited in February.

The winter bike has the fenders for the spring melt, so it "ain't being put away for the summer yet." There's a lot of melt to come...

heard on TV that we were getting snow around 2am one day this week. started me thinking about an early ride before dawn! hehe yes! but after more consideration, I don't think it will materialize. I think the studs are coming off the last bike standing w/ them

also, traded my car that had winter tires, so here's hoping for only rain in coming days. but will have fond memories of this past winter cycling

I'm now on my winter beater: Giant Acapulco mtn bike with studded tires.

All the snow and ice are gone from the streets but there are still patches of ice and slush on the trails. If there's another snowfall it wouldn't be so bad as I doubt it'll accumulate to 4inches.

It got upgraded to a blizzard and we got 9" of that 4 to 6. It moved us to 3rd place on the winter snow total list at 89.7". We have another 9" to go for #1. We had a few broken branches due to the heavy snow, but we didn't lose power like some in the Twin Cities.

The plow cleared my street at 12:30 on Saturday and I had the (winter) bike out at 1:45 for 36 miles. The temp was in the 30s and the sun was shining. A September sun. It certainly has some strength these days. If this had been Dec or January, I'd have been off the bike a few days. I was regretting all the shoveling of the heavy stuff I'd done Saturday morning. I should have just let most of it melt.

Storm coming in tonight that could drop as much as 8 - 10" of snow by Thursday. But we have a weather shield so there is an off chance the system will split in two and go around the city which happens quite frequently. These late April storms are good for ground moisture as the ground has started to thaw and can absorb some of it as it slowly melts. The snow on the roads would melt quickly if they don't plow it, but they'll plow it and snow banks will stick around for a week.

Had to push a few times today. It's melting quickly on the roads now. Maybe 2 days before I can switch back to the mountain bike.
