Going around Great Britain

Well my wife and I's dream is finally going to come true. At the end of April we will set off to ride around the British coast and we have the luxury of six months to do it in. It's about 5,500 miles as far as I can gather from others that have done it so we should be able to afford a leisurely pace, days off and time to explore some of the more obscure islands like the Orkneys and Shetlands. If anybody reading this has done this trip or knows anybody who has links would be most welcome. I have read all the books and blogs I can find but I'm sure there are more. Books I know of are Mike Carter's and Peter Mann's. I have probably found all the blogs that Google knows about but I'm sure there are others that 'cycling/cycle around Britain' doesn't find.
We are giving up our jobs and our rented home just to enhance the sense of adventure. Should be fun.

thanks for your responses. antokelly thanks for the fellclub tip. I'm on CTC and YACF thank you. Can't believe I have never come across bikeforums.net before but it seems like a pretty busy place.

My go-to author for traveling is always Rick Steves. His books are not oriented specifically towards cyclists, though there is always something mentioned about how bike friendly a place is. He updates books annually, too.
