Dauphine -- spoilers -- arm chair comments

Sean Quinn nabbed third today half a bike length behind Hayter and Wout. Wish I woulda put him in my velogames team but I know Froome will deliver

Sean Quinn hopefully the start of some American presence along with Sepp and Brandon.

PCS lists Sean Quinn's strengths as -- GC and climbing -- This will be interesting to watch!

Ok ok so how about Kevin Vermaerke then? 21yo on DSM. He's had a few dnfs, will be interesting to see that play out.

Jorgenson is racing in the Dauphine, so maybe we'll get a chance to see.

That is a crazy strong squad JV brought. Makes every other team look like they'll be grabbing for crumbs. Scarier still is that it might not be enough come July ...
Anyway, hoping that Padun grabs a stage. Not expecting him to win it all again, but a stage and a high placing will good for him and desperately needed for EF. I'm kind of hoping McNulty will take off on one of his long breaks, but I think he's looking at bigger fish to fry than that. Also hoping O'Connor gets a stage and places well.

Kevin Vermaerke third today from the break -- just made it with Wout +5 behind. I guess Sepp is doing the tour of Suisse instead.

I love one weeks but it feels like O'Connor will be cagey until the tour. McNulty though will be wanting to shine here as he's the tufted phenom's rouleur help yeah?

D'oh!

Now he can belly up to the bar with Zabel. Maybe Gaudu and Freire will send them a sympathy drink.

Good on Gaudu.

I like Van Aert as a rider, but it won't do his soul harm for him to be taken down a notch.

Molano hits Page a few times and gets 86"d. What was he thinking? Only Remco can get away with putting hands on other racers. Great stage though.

What's up with Groenewegen? Stage 5 BEX were sitting pretty until Ineos took over and suddenly the guys in light blue were back of the pack. Groenewegen fell off the back on the last climb and lost 2'43" in ~13 km?? Nearly all of which were downhill. And today he's at the front of the pack. Not seeing him have a good time over the Galibier and Croix de Fer.

Most impressive so far for me is either Gaudu's sprint, snaking his way to the front past WvA's victory salute, or (until he got sick) Ayuso. 19 years old, this year UAE's second highest scorer after Pogacar. What's with all the Wunderkinder these days??

Least impressive. Moron Molano. Also McNulty for not just getting a bike change. He has to know better than that. Maybe he'll go on a Hail Mary long-distance flyer ...

Also, finally we're about to get some answer's re: Roglic's form. He hasn't looked convincing all year, we finally get a real test. That said, if we take out Pogacar he'd probably still be the favorite for the Tour so "hasn't looked convincing" is a bit relative.

Froome got dropped. So much for that shot-lived fairy-tale comeback. At this point, I almost feel sorry for the guy, and then I remember what he is being paid.

McNulty was on a new TT bike that was all dialed in for him and tested significantly faster than his spare. Despite the top dollar asking price that old rich people happily pay up for, UAE's equipment isn't that good (just ask Gaviria ), so he was probably thinking his only chance to stay in GC contention was to get a quick fix for the chain drop. His freakout didn't help make that a success, though.

Now Froome is sick. Either the hits keep coming for the poor guy, or it's a convenient out. Lo siento.

Headlines say his TdeF spot isn't guaranteed. Wanna bet he won't be there? Any takers? Would that impact Vanmarcke going on walkabout for UCI points?

I cheaped out on CN & VN paywalls so I don't see much beyond the headlines these days, and am behind on my videos. Molano should give me a dope slap.

In Velogames, I somehow filtered to the top of our little league (interloper notwithstanding) as of yesterday but without Ayuso I'll need some ayuda to stay there. 2 new days ahead. The race is still on.

J-V looks so strong.

When the put the pressure on in the climbs, they dropped McNulty. Maybe Pogacar doesn't need domestiques, but in the contest between J-V, Ineos, and UAE, you gotta say that the team effort of J-V in the mountains looks the best.

Could this be Roglic's year? Or maybe Vingegaard? Or is Pogacar still unbeatable, even with lesser support?
Can't wait to find out.

I feel like he knows he's done (and probably has known that for quite a while) but has to keep saying this stuff to save face based on how much he is being paid.
It will be interesting to see if he goes to the Tour. It probably gets ISN on TV a bit more which sponsors always like, but may hurt their chances at getting more points which they need.

Chris isn't being paid to just win races. He's being paid for his name and his expertise.
