Ride Across Portugal 🇵🇹 Huge Shout out.
We did the Ride Across Portugal last week. ( on our tandem, which is another story.) 6 days 480 miles, 37000 feet of climbing. Ride Across Portugal | Official Website
over the years, I’ve done a fair amount of events, centuries, races, gran Fondo, tours, etc, and I can honestly say this is the most amazing event I’ve ever done.
The ride goes through the center of the country, which is low population density, hence little traffic. The climbs are challenging, the roads are good and the scenery ranges from majestic to bucolic. The hotels and food are very good.( although the buffets get a bit old after awhile).
What makes the event though is the people. The support is amazing, and they are very nice. They really want to show off their country and make sure you have a great experience. It’s a very small event, with a target of 65 riders, although with cancellations they only had 22 riders.
The support staff outnumbered the riders, including mechanics, videographers, sag, rest stops, massage, luggage transfers etc.

Wow. Looks amazing. Now I am kicking myself even more for not doing the ride this year. Mrs. NoWhammies even gave me permission to go without her b/c she could not get the time off work!

if you go to the Ride Across Portugal web page, or their Facebook feed, there is a video for each stage. They had a 3 person video crew,complete with drones documenting every stage

We did RAP through Two Wheel Tours. $5000 euro each for 11 days, all meals, transfers, mechanic and massages, beer wine. Given the quality of the accommodations, food and support, I think it was a very good value. You can do the basic 6 days with Two Wheel tours for less, and you can go directly with RAP, and just their support for less, but I think the extra support from Two Wheel Tours is worth it, if it fits your budget.

i watched Ed Laverack's videos, def made me jealous of the experience. from my perspective (American but my parents are from the northern Portuguese border and I'm a Portuguese citizen as well) you all missed some good riding further north lol my parents still own my grandparents' home there, but unfortunately the last time I was able to go was 2018, flights are ridiculous during peak summer season for a family of 3 and with a school aged kid I don't really get the option to fly in off-peak season like my parents do. hope you had a great time

Ed Laverack was pretty amazing. He set a KOM for the highest climb in Portugal, beating all the best times for the climb from the Tour of Portugal.
