Here’s that 1972 Paramount P-13


I took a few glamour shots today. The build is pretty original-ish, mostly Nuovo Record from the early 70s.



In concessions to age and gravity, the crankset sports a 48/42 and there’s a 14-32 in the back.



New B17 Imperial because I prefer (need, really) the cutout.



The bars and stem are Cinelli but with the newer logos. I chose to use black tape and cables and leave the typical red highlights to some smaller pieces.


A set of replacement decals is on the way from Waterford, but the head badge still rocks.


The ride is smooth and well-behaved. I had it up to 40 on a twisty downhill and if felt solid. I noticed today that unlike my other bikes, I have no toe overlap. And I’d been thinking of swapping in a longer set of arms…Chapeau to @Milepost105 for the frame, it’ll get good use!

I like your half-step gearing, and I am jealous that your derailleur hanger enables a 1972 NR to accommodate 32T. I shared my 1982 Bianchi story -- 46-38 / 13-15-17-20-23-26 was the absolute lowest I could go without resorting to a 110mm BCD spider.

Great-looking machine, very similar to the 1974(ish) large-frame chrome Paramount one of my friends owned.

Nice "dream build"!

I've seen that before where a narrower spread of chainring sizes allows a short-cage NR to handle 14-32t with grace (and with careful balance of chain length and axle position).

Thanks. They’re Rene Herse Stampede Pass. Labeled 32, they measure 30.25 on those rims. A little tight but I’ve ‘ad worse.
