Proper photoshoot of the Vitalicio Seguros (Freire?) team bike
Since I was already set up doing the Motta I figured I might as well do this Olmo too. This is the confirmed team bike that supposedly was Oscar Freire's practice bike. The Oscar part has not been confirmed but Olmo confirmed it's a team bike. The bike came from Tony Tom and with his rep in the cycling community I feel pretty confidant it's authentic. If you look close at the pictures you'll see a lot of wear, touch up. some rust, etc on this one. I've set it up with a cockpit I can ride (its small for me) but have otherwise left it as I got it.
Some of the decals are under cleacoat and others are stickers on top of the paint. If you look close at the chainstay shots you'll see a yellowed spot where another sponsor's decal was. Other pictures on line of team bikes show the decal. Groupset is also what the team was using.
If I want to be stupid I can spend $500 on it to get a proper team Flite saddle like Oscar rode as well as the proper team handlebar tape. Just can't see doing that unless I somehow get Oscar to confirm it's real. Cool bike no matter what with the shaped tubes and all. Haven't ridden this one yet either but tempted to take it out this morning.
Hmmmm.....name decal matches other confirmed team bikes.

My Olmo dates back to '82, but I did pick up a Vitalicio Seguros cap about 20 years ago. It's not easy to find Olmo cycling gear in the USA.
Still have the bike and the cap.
Nice to see a bike that it actually matches!

(was enjoying a hot bike ride on the Olmo with buddies this morning)

Yeah, the team wasn't around for long. The jersey was easy to find but not much else is readily available as team items.
Your Olmo looks like a sweet ride from what I can see.
I've got another one too.
I need to reshoot this bike too.

In 1972 whole bike shopping Olmo was mentioned as a good brand but was during the time of reorganization- nothing imported.

Very cool - classic 90’s bike right there. Interesting routing on the rear brake cable. I’ve had a couple of Deda steel bikes and they are stiff; definitely racer bikes!
