Heather Cook Released

I was sitting in a waiting room while my wife is having some tests and just heard Heather Cook is being released after serving about half of her sentence.
For those not familiar with the story, she was the bishop responsible for the drunk driving murder of Tom Palermo.

That shouldn't be the focus. The individual who held me up at gun point served 13 years in prison and he didn't even physically harm anyone.

She is a person who through extreme personal negligence did seriously bodily injury leading to the death of another human being. If she had shot someone with a gun would she be getting released early? And in any case ... what has she done to deserve early release? has the victim come back to life?

"Doory told the court he believed Cook had shown 'substantial rehabilitation,' but he denied the motion, announcing that her release date was expected to be Aug. 6."

Substantial rehabilitation? Based on what? That she wasn't driving under the influence or leaving the scene of a crime while in prison?

You can't make this stuff up!

So drive drunk, kill a guy, flee the scene, and don't even serve four years. She also must be super remorseful, as she only applied for early release/parole like half a dozen times.

The law doesn't seem to regard cyclists as human.

Her previous employer left it up to her to provide any detailed disclosure of her earlier crimes before she received her promotion. I would not doubt that she will pursue similar employment after release.

She committed a great evil, had a criminal record, showed little public remorse and deserved to be locked up. However, the question, unless you believe in spending state resources for the hell of it, is whether she remains a danger under the conditions of her release. I don't know the answer.

Totally agree - She probably already has another job offer.
I mean, isn't that usually one of the requirements for parole - That you have gainful employment?

And what kind of work is she qualified for, you ask? Well, she's highly qualified to be a bishop, of course,
but a person with her previously demonstrated talent will find many opportunities open to her ........

The guy who held me up told his current employer chain that he was incarcerated for "aggravated assault" (not armed robbery), served 13 years. He works for a group that manages people who need to "turn their lives around". This is what the media article wrote on his behalf. I don't think Heather Cook's record will follow her. She seems to be fairly intelligent and knows how to work the system.

What are the odds of a 62 year old drunk, having revealed her hypocrisy by leaving a man she injured on the side of the road, being "rehabilitated?" Obviously she knows how to work the system.

Don't be so cynical. She obviously found God while locked up.

This can't be technically correct -
She must already have found God before she was arrested and incarcerated, else how could she have been a bishop ?

But if you think about it, would someone who had "found God" leave a man on the side of the road like that?

We are now getting into circular logic ..........
Perhaps she HAD found God, but left him by the side of the road, somewhere along her way.

It's amusing to think what will become of this reprobate, the "celibate" pedophiles and high rolling evangelists if their espoused version of the Hereafter comes to pass....

This discussion somehow became focused on how she was/is a Bishop. It doesn't necessarily make her a good person.
Her documented actions, past and present, would be the best way to predict which path she will go.
My issue is that she was put out there after so short of a time. She could still "take the wheel" again.

Maybe there will be a civil suit that will keep her impoverished and unable to afford an auto. She might show up here Living Car Free.

Exactly - My point about her being a bishop was a wee bit tongue-in-cheek ...........
