Enplusoneosis.
My mentor always tried to calm my n+1 excitement with 'It's just a bike'. Words to live by.

TCO - toe clip overlap - C&V because toe clip
DS / NDS - not really C&V specific but bike specific
Garage door shot - the typical backdrop for a bike pic

FD: Front Derailleur
RD: Rear Derailleur
IGH: Internal Geared Hub
Rando: For the nominal purpose of using on, or derived from a randonneur or randonneuse (bicycle suited for randonneuring).
VO: Velo Orange (a popular vendor of bicycles and accessories that usually give a nod to C&V sensibilities)
Not specific to C&V, but sometimes used.
YMMV: A disclaimer made to indicate the poster isn't being dogmatic.
IMHO: A dishonest self-assessment, as this has yet to be used by anyone who is in the least humble about their opinion.

I havent noticed frankenbike and its synonym, parts bin build, an assemblage of workable but mismatched components using what was readily available.
The pretentious version would be curated build or purpose-built. Also mismatched componentry but selected for a specific purpose or aesthetic. Also see: matchy-matchy.
Theres a dive bar in our neighborhood on Broadway named Bobs Your Uncle.

Maybe more 41 than C&V, but....
An ideal bike should be laterally stiff and vertically compliant.

Might as well define it.
FFD = French Fender Day, a wonderful gathering every early fall in non-COVID years where old farts on old bikes, typically built in the French constructeur method, often built by French constructeurs, almost always with fenders (French or not). Attendees believe that bike technology should have just stopped changing long before the Eroica bike date cutoff, and, like Brunelleschi studying Roman ruins to rediscover the technology holding up the roof of the Duomo, Peter Weigle saved bicycling, and possibly humanity by rediscovering low trail and 650b tires.
Alternative definition:
FFD = French Fender Day, a gathering of bike nerds and poseurs every early fall in non-COVID years to slap each other on the back and tell each other how superior our ancient technology bikes are, even though none of us can keep up with the carbon fiber riding Racer Ricks anymore. Most of these bikes will be broken down half the year while the owner searches frantically on French eBay for an obscure French part.

Hammerfest: Group ride where testosterone prevails over common sense (everyone is constantly putting the hammer down instead of pacing)
Masher: cyclist who rides with a slower than typical cadence / higher gear than most would choose for a given situation. Mashing is the opposite of spinning

Tyres, even though the poster is born and raised in the US...
N+1= A monikker for the idiocy that is bicycle addiction; adding a bike to an already overcrowded stable; N-1, a return to sanity, much to the chagrin of the person deleting it.
PO: penetrating oil, pissed off, and an unidentified pronounced odor...Like EVOO for bike folks...
Leverage: the politer word for the technique used to unstick parts that have fused...sometimes pronounced "sledgehammer".
RJ the bike guy: where all amateur mechanics turn to after they have failed the standard way.
Retrofit: adding something to a C and V bike that doesn't belong, knowing folks will resoundingly suggest period-correct hardware; in my case, meaning, "oops...didn't know that wouldn't fit...what if I do this though." Usually follwed by a trip to RJ the Bike Guy.

SWMBO = She Who Must Be Obeyed. See S-1 above. Also refers to obedience on other matters as well as all things bicycle-related.
Tubulars, Tubular tires. Nothing to do with tubeless or tube-type (clincher) tires.
